I am very aware that there was a William Green in Caswell County who appears to have descended from the Lewis Burwell Green Family of Virginia. Lewis Burwell Green was a wealty man and had commercial interactions all over southern Virginia - - including Brunswick County. I just have little knowledge of this Caswell County Family - - and did not want to imply that the two Lewis' were one and the same. Thanks; David T. Green >> David, I am interested in the name of William Wills Green that you mentioned above. Was there a Granville County connection. I am researching the Wills family and on of my ancestors, Miles Wells(Wills) came from Granville County and settled in Caswell County, very near the Person County border ca. 1800. Although this would not be a direct line for me, I am so interested in this Wills family that I latch on to whatever info that I can re: the family. Would appreciate your input. The principal name I'm researching is FAUCETT, under any one of the zillion different spellings. I've gotten back to my third great grandfather, William E. FAUCETT (1796-1873). Although he, too, was born in North Carolina, around the turn of the 18th century, there were so many FAUCETTs in that part of the world I can't seem to find his father. Mark Faucette >> Hi Mark, I caught your posting to the Orange County rootslist. You will find this is a really good group for sharing and caring about your research. Also lots of good things have been posted. Glad that you are on board. We are going to end up related in some fashion if we keep on uncovering stuff. My grandfather's eldest brother was married to two Mortons and finally to a Horton. There were offspring from the first two marriages. Also I am a descendant of Susannah Lea who was married to Shadrack Hargis of Person County, very near the Caswell County border. I also have a Lea connection through my Wells(Wills) family. My Miles Wells was married to Frusannah Lea prior to his move to Caswell from Granville County ca. 1790. I have found a Hardy/Wallis connection in Isle of Wight County in the early 1700's. I believe that this is the origin of your Wallis line. Have you attempted any connections there? Hope you have had a good holiday! John
Mark, try Sue Matheny at PNGR66A@PRODIGY.COM. I THINK she is researching the same Leas. Mary Louise

Hello Bill, I scanned the only material that I could find re: the Caddell family from the Person County Legacy Book. I hope that this gives you some leads. John Fox Winston-Salem, NC see below an article that I scanned from the Person County Legacy Book, Volume I. This is an article that mentions the Caddell family. I do not have Volume II which may also list some data about your family. I remember my father mentioning an area around Roxboro that was called Caddell. Please let me know if this connects with your family. Hope that you and yours have had a good holiday season. John Fox Winston-Salem, NC THOMAS LIPSCOMB FAMILY 603 At the birth of Person County, North Carolina, in 1791, many of my ancestral lines already existed in this area. Military Records show that William Sargent was one of the men who attended upon an alarm at Wilmington, North Carolina, September 4, 1748. In 1754, William Sargent received two land grants from the Earl of Granville, John Carteret. Family tradition is that the wife of William Sargent was Sarah Lea, sister to James Lea. William and Sarah Sargent had, among their children, a son, Joseph Sargent who married Ruth Ransom. Joseph Sargent died in 1781, not too long after his father had died in 1768. Joseph and Ruth had only two children, one of whom was Daniel Sargent. He married Delphy Carney, daughter of Joseph Carney, on January 3, 1780. Daniel and his wife continued to live on some of the original Sargent land up until the time Daniel died in 1813. At that time the land was divided, one part going to their daughter Polly Sargent, who had married Thomas Lipscomb on November 20, 1807. Thomas Lipscomb was born in 1783, the son of Arch Lipscomb and his first wife. Archibald Lipscomb and his brother, Thomas Lipscomb, had moved with their families to Person County sometime shortly after 1800. Archibald Lipscomb, also called William Archer Lipscomb on early records, bought his first piece of property from William Sargent Jr. Both Archibald and his brother saw service in the Revolutionary War. Archibald enlisted in the Continental Line of the Army of the United States as a common soldier. He was only sixteen when he enlisted, his birthday being in 1763. In the winter of 1779-1780 he marched from King William Courthouse in Virginia to Williamsburg where he and his company joined the regiment, thence southward through the county of Caswell, the towns of Hillsborough, Salisbury, and Charlotte in North Carolina. He was present at Gates' defeat on the 16th of August 1780. At about the same time that Thomas Lipscomb married Polly Sargent, another wedding occurred in Person County, that of John W.Stanfield to Janie Green on September 25, 1810. John W. Stanfield was born in 1789, one of the sons of Robert Stanfield and his wife, Elizabeth Lowery of Halifax County, Virginia. The Stanfield land was on the Virginia-North Carolina border in the Hyco area. Janie Green had inherited land on Double Creek of the Hyco from her father, Lewis Green. This land was just west of Roxboro, and in later years the Stantields lived there. John and Janie named their eldest son, Washington. Lewis Green, son of William Green of Virginia, was first mentioned in the Court Records of Orange County, North Carolina 1752-1766 on page 250, "Road Jury for 'Road from Lewis Green's ford on Dan River to Boyd's Mill on Haw River' ". Lewis Green married Elizabeth Caddel on December 26, 1789. Their daughter Janie was born in 1790. Elizabeth Caddel is said to be the sister of Andrew Caddel Jr., their parents being Andrew Caddel Sr. and Jane Henderson. One of the early Andrew Caddels was a signer of the Petition to form Caswell County from Orange County. Caswell County was created from Orange County in 1777. Washington Green Stanfield was born July 11, 1811. He married Artmesia Lipscomb, born 1813, the daughter of Thomas Lipscomb and Polly Sargent. They lived in Person County until 1848 when the family moved to Macon County, North Carolina. Most of their children were born in Person County including my grandmother, Emily Elizabeth Stanfield. She married Joab Crisp of Macon County in 1868. Joab Crisp was the great grandson of John Crisp who was listed in the Caswell County Census in 1790. John Crisp also fought in the Revolutionary War. Most of his children moved to western North Carolina. Joab Crisp, born 1845, was the son of Hiram Crisp Jr. and his wife Myra Dills. Myra Dills was the daughter of Thomas Dills and his wife, Elizabeth Martin. The Dills line is also connected with the early Person County area. Peter and John Dills, brothers, were members of the first settlers to come down "Carolina" road from southeastern Pennsylvania through the Shenandoah. John remained in the Person County area, while Peter moved on to Rutherford County, North Carolina. Myra Dill's great. great-grandfather was this Peter Dills, whose son Thomas married Elizabeth Cuzzine. Their son, Bartlett Dills married the daughter of Philip Hinson. Jennie Crisp, my mother was born in 1881. She left North Carolina about 1900 to come west where she met and married Arthur Wigfield, my father. Jennie never forgot about her southern heritage, nor do I. - Ruth Wigfield Philip In a message dated 12/29/97 4:03:13 AM, pitech@hpnc.com wrote: <<CADDEL,CADDELL, CADDLE, CADLE - My ancestor Andrew CADDEL was first located in as a surveyor in 1754 and in a 1755 tax list of Orange Co., NC. 28 December 1997 Re Wills... Copies of wills are kept by the NC Archives in Raleigh. You may want to check their web site at: http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/archives/archcnts.htm There are details there re obtaining information/copies by mail. Yours faithfully, Grace-Ellen McCrann North Carolina Librarian The State Library of North Carolina gmccrann@hal.dcr.state.nc.us ****** I have many questions, but will limit first to asking if one of you might have complete copy of John King's will of 21 Jun 1783 said to be in Book A, p 255 of Or Co Wills (1783-1784); or a suggestion on how to access it. Thanks, Wayne Hamilton
