There's another one yet, close to my own house in western Durham County, flowing into New Hope Creek. I don't know how much this one figures in old Orange Co. records, as it isn't exactly a huge waterway, but people researching this area should at least be alert to it. Hello to you all and Happy New Year, Thought I would give my names again in case there are any new people who have joined. Would like to hear from anyone researching the surnames MASON and POWELL in North Carolina. My ancestor William MASON married in 1805 Orange Co N.C to Rebecca Emily POWELL. I would like very much to locate parents of both or any information on them or their parents. William Mason and wife Rebecca Emily Powell Mason later moved to Franklin Co Tennessee where they had several children. Thanks Brenda Mason Campos Aurora,Colorado bcampos@mho.net

1 January 1998 Re the FCC & per-minute charges... This is a year-old story. The February deadline was February 1997, not February 1998. I checked the web site where the FCC has posted a selection of comments re Internet Service Providers and Access Charges... http://www.fcc.gov/Bureaus/Common_Carrier/Comments/access_reform/samples.h tml This web site is 9 months old and has not been changed since March of 1997. The FCC issued 4 orders re Universal Service in 1997, on 8 May, 10 July, 18 July and 30 December. The 8 May 1997 Report and Order identified who must contribute to the new universal service support mechanisms, determined who may receive universal service support or universal service discounts, and provided methods for determining levels of universal service support and processes for administering the new support mechanisms. The 10 July 1997 Order among other things, clarified issues concerning existing contracts for services to schools and libraries, recovery of corporate operations expense from high loop cost support mechanisms and coordination between Commission and Joint Board staff. The 18 July 1997 Order directed the National Exchange Carrier Association to establish the Universal Service Administrative Company and to create the Schools and Libraries Corporation and Rural Health Care Corporation to perform functions associated with administering the schools and libraries and rural health care programs, respectively. The web site for the 30 December Order is: http://www.fcc.gov/Bureaus/Common_Carrier/News_Releases/1997/nrcc7085.txt Yours faithfully, Grace-Ellen McCrann North Carolina Librarian The State Library of North Carolina gmccrann@hal.dcr.state.nc.us

Hi Jeff: You can find Sandy Creek on today's map by locating HWY 421 that runs through Guildford and Randolph Counties. Just as HWY 421 crosses from Randolph County into Guilford, Sandy Creek runs along parallel just west of the HWY. On today's map, I couldn't find Owen's Pounders Branch, sorry. From there, you'll just have to guess. Linda
Jeff, Linda: I believe there's another Sandy Creek in Old Orange - it runs sw from downtown Durham into New Hope Creek. I played in it over 50 years ago. Happy New Year to All, May you find your most elusive ancestor in 1998! Helen in GA
Jeff, Aren't you looking for Sandy Creek and Pounder's Branch in Granville, not Orange? I imagine that almost every county has a Sandy Creek. I know about Sandy Creek Baptist Church and early historic Association near hwy 421 in Chatham Cty., but it is near the Randolph Cty. line area. John Brooks, whose son Isaac m. Ruth Terrell, was a founding member of that church, or at least one of the earliest members. Does anyone have a Garland Stout map of Granville Cty.?? Bebe Fox Winston-Salem, N. C.

I have added to the Person Co USGenWeb page some cemetery information that might be of interest to those doing Person Co research. The url for the cemetery page is: http://www4.ncsu.edu/~eclayton/cem.htm The Person Co USGenWeb page is at: http://www4.ncsu.edu/~eclayton/person.htm The cemetery information was provided by Ernest Blalock in Prospect Hill. He has included not only the tombstone inscriptions but also commentary that provides additional information. Feedback welcome! I am looking for the given names and parents of the spouses of: SARAH ARMSTRONG (b. June 19, 1740 in PA) who married an ALLEN in Orange County. SUSANNAH ARMSTRONG (b. December 29, 1954 in Orange County) who married a LLOYD. Both Sarah and Susannah were daughters of James and Mollie Bird Armstrong who moved from PA to Orange County @1753 and settled along the Enos River. Their brother WILLIAM ARMSTRONG married JANE LAPSLEY, and sister, MARY ARMSTRONG married ALEXANDER MEBANE, JR. I have several generations of the descendants of William and Jane Lapsley Armstrong that I will be happy to share. Any information or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Helen Gant Donald
