    3. Hi Tawsha, I have Brinkleys from this area. Unfortunately I don't know a lot about them. My earliest Brinkley is Hiram b 1819 probably in Person/Orange Co. He married Annis Oakley b 1817 Person Co and they moved to Orange Co. Have you seen Mark Brinkley's file on the net? He also traces a lot of his Brinkleys from this area. I have a book on the Brinkleys by Fred Brinkley, "The Brinkley and Allied Families of VA and NC". I looked up your Alexander but no luck. I will keep your name in my file and will contact you if I find the line beyond Hiram. Would you like to exchange information? Good luck. Bill Brinkley

    3. I am watching with great interest the discussion on MOOREs and DIXONs. Does anyone have information on the following: John MOORE m. Jane SMITH (I'm not making this up!). They had a son, Samuel Lee MOORE, b. 1815 in KY or TN. In 1840 Samuel and wife Elizabeth DIXON were living in Jackson Co., TN, where the courthouse has since burned. Elizabeth, according to her death cert. was the daughter of Simon DIXON, no mother given. I do not believe this is of the famous Quaker Simon DIXONs. Samuel's parents' names also came from his death certificate; both he and Elizabeth died in Orange County,IN. Thanks for ANY help you can give with this line. It is stopped me and several cousins in our tracks. My guess is that the Moores & Carltons came from the NW corner of present day Brunswick Co. I show a number of deeds with Carltons and Moores that include my Martins from that county. The Moores lived on Cedar Creek which strattles the northern section of the Brunswick - Lunenburg Co. line. The Carltons had a farm a couple of miles east on Wildcat Creek. My Martins were their neighbors in the early and mid 1700s before migrating to that part of Orange that is now North Central Chatham Co. NC (Meadow Branch of Terrells Creek on the Haw). I wish I knew more about the ages of the John Moore and Lennard Carlton mentioned. I've seen Dixon's up there as well. Don't know the relationship. This is the same area that Caleb Lindsey came from. Caleb was the son of William Lindsey. I'm sure you've seen the Lindsey presence in southern Orange in the mid and late 1700s. Brunswick Co. VA: 1759- William Martin bought 92 acres on N. side of Middle Cedar Creek from Robert Moore Sr. of Luningburgh Co. adjoining lands of Valentine Moore & John Weaver. 1759- Many deeds were witnessed by William Martin: N. side of Middle Cedar Creek; N. side of North Cedar Creek; S. side of North Cedar Creek; Fork of Cedar Creek on the N. side of N. Cedar Creek. Other names included in these deeds were: John Weaver (J.); Elizabeth Weaver; Thomas Weaver; Winfred Dickonson, Robert Moore Sr., James Moore Jr., Valentine Moore, William Moore. 1759- William Martin & Abraham Martin witnessed the sale between William Lindsey and John Lindsey on the W. side of Wildcat Creek adjoining Old Tanfat Branch. The following year land is purchased on the E. side of Little Wildcat Creek. Names that appear in these deeds: William Lindsey (there is another deed in Brunswick Co. 1748 William Lindsey of New Kent Co.), John Lindsey, James Lindsey, Caleb Lindsey, Peter Ross, John Carlton, Aggatha Carlton, Thomas Holcomb, Joshua Draper and William Fetch. 1762- William Martin died in Brunswick Co. VA 1763- Henry Martin bought 100 acres adjoining Caleb Lindsey & wife Rose in St. Andrews Par., Wit: William Martin, Abraham Martin, Henry Barrow, Jonathan Williams. 1765- William Martin bought 92 acres on N. side of Middle Cedar Creek from John Elmore, "Along William Martin's line & County Line." Wit: Robert Moore, Valentine Moore, Philemon Lacy. 1769- William Martin & wife Jane sold 100 acres to Thomas Briggs on Waqua Creek, "Walker's to William's to Daniel's to Abraham Martin's Corner.... 1772- William Martin of Orange Co., NC sold 184 acres to Daniel Askew in the Fork of Cedar Creek adjoining Valentine Moore's Line & County Line down to Middle Cedar Creek. "THIS INDENTURE made this sixth day of November in the year of Our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty four, Between William Spurlin of the County of Chatham and State of North Carolina of the one part and William Martin of the County and State aforesaid of the other part... on Haw River and Meadow Branch beginning at the mouth of said branch. Witnesses were: John Martin and James Lindsey." (1785-bC-p312 Chatham Co.) Sorry, I don't have any information on Trice. I've been hoping to find someone who has put all these Moore's together. Maybe someone else can show us some wills from the Moore's in Lunenburg & Brunswick. If any of this interests you, please read my Martin Page. It describes a number of these people and their migration from Brunswick, VA to Orange/Chatham and on down to Lincoln/Rutherford Co. NC. The address is in my signiture. Jeffrey L.
