    3. The Hillsborough RECORDER was published from the 1820s - at least those are the ones on microfilm. There are microfilms of these papers at most record libraries, such as Wake Forest U in W-S. 1. [NCORANGE] Candis Queen Clark
    2. Angela Rhodes
    3. I thought I would re-post this again as the list seems to be active these days. I am still searching for information on my ggg-grandmother, Candis Queen Clark. According to census information Candis was born in NC about 1814. Candis married Robert Rhodes in 1837 in Orange Co., NC. Candis and Robert had children: Francis, William, Eliza, Teresa, Alexander, Unity, and John. Candis and family lived in Orange Co., according to the 1840, 1850 & 1860 censuses in the part that became part of Durham Co. Robert died about 1863. I cannot find Candis on the 1870 census but do find her in 1880 in Nash Co., NC living with daughter Unity, son John, and 1 grandchild, Dover (Unity's daughter). I cannot find anything else on her. I would like to find names of parents and siblings. Also, when and where she died and is buried. I would think she is probably buried w/ husband, Robert but do not know the location of his grave either. The name Candis Queen Clark seems rather unusual to me and would think it would catch someone's eye if they ran across it. If anyone has any information on a Candis Clark or Candis Rhodes I would appreciate hearing from you. I may be contacted directly at [email protected] Thanks, Chris

    2. Can anyone tell me the newspapers that would have been used in Hillsborough, NC (walnut grove church area) between the times of 1800 to 1920? Also, where can I find copies or microfilm of them? I went to the Orange County library but they dont have everything on file or didnt at that time. I am researching the families of Jordan Cary and his wife Sally "Parker" Cary that lived 1 mile from Walnut Grove Church. Jordan was born approx 1805. Several of his descendents are buried at the church and on private property near the church. Anyone interested in his family can contact me at [email protected] Also, has anyone ever heard of Cary mountain in that area? Thanks, Wendy Randall

    3. It is now called Ellerbee Creek. It rises just w of the Durham city limits near I-85 Exit 172 and floes ne thru Duham to the Neuse R. roughly paralleling I-85. It was once called Elliby or Alliby Creek, according to The NC Gazetteer. 1. [NCORANGE] Clark family
    2. Joyce Harrison
    3. Hello, It has been awhile since I posted so I thought I would try again. I have a brick wall that I need help with. I am trying to find the marriage bond or date for William Henry Clark and Narvella "Narvie" Elizabeth Clark of Orange County. I am sending to both counties as it is possible the records could be in Alamance. Here are the facts I know: Parents of Narvie Clark: Edward Franklin Clark Born: Feb. 7th, 1845 Orange Died: Oct. 24, 1921 Guilford Mother: Martha McPherson Clark Born: Abt. Oct. 1854 Died: Jan. 8th, 1920 His Parents: John Clark and Mahalah Ray of Orange Married: 7/28/1829 (Orange Co. Marr. Rec. Her Parents: Franklin McPherson and JoAnna Andrews Married: 12/15/1847 (Orange Co. Mar.Rec) The 1850 census in Orange County have Franklin and Anne with one child William, 6 months old but I cannot find Edward Clarks family in the 1850 census for Orange County. I also cannot find any record of a marriage for Willim Henry and Narvie. She was married to James C. Morton first and their record is in Alamance County. They were married Dec. 1899. So her marriage to William Henry would have to been between 1901 and 1907 according to other information I have. They moved to Guilford County sometime around 1907 or 1908. The death certificate for William lists his father as John Clark of Orange County but no mother. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
