Hello Everyone, I am researching Terrell families residing in Orange County anytime prior to 1900. As a starting point I would like to determine the relationships, ancestors, and descendants of those who appear in census records from 1800-1850: Henry & Joseph (1800); Jo (1810); Joseph (1820); George, Solomon and Thomas (1830); George & Thomas (1840); Sol & Thomas E. in Orange (1850) and Edney, Julia, Edward, George, Harriet, Mary Jo and Thomas in Alamance (1850). Also seek ancestors and siblings of the following Terrell's who married in Orange County: Amy Terrell-George Hutchinson (4 Oct 1826) Anne Terrell-James Hutchins (26 Jan 1781) Elizabeth Terrell-Allen Thomas (18 Jul 1818) Matilda Terrell-William Anderson (14 Nov 1826) Nancy Terrell-Jacob Dishongs (1 Jul 1828) Polly Terrell-David Allen (23 Jan 1827) Sarah Terrell-Samuel Patton (7 Jun 1841) Edward A. Terrell-Susan D. Rice (01 Mar 1858) George W. Terrell-Eliza Rice (30 Dec 1857) Henry Terrell-Elizabeth Sharp (2 Apr 1787) John Terrell-Mariah Farrar (21 Dec 1865) Thomas A Terrell-Martha E. Scott (13 Nov 1867) William Terrell-Margaret Minnis (22 Nov 1853) I suspect some, if not all of these folks may be related to either Timothy or John Terrell, brothers who settled in North Carolina in the early 1740's. Welcome any bits of information no matter how small, to include where in Orange County these families lived (especially in the case of the brides' families). Happy to share what I have gathered so far and try and answer any questions. Thanks, Doug Terrell
Searching for information on Delia Ferrel. Delia married John Rhodes in Bailey township of Nash County N.C. on Jan. 20, 1886. In the 1880 Nash County census Delia Ferrell is 12 years of age living with Wm. R. Herndon and his wife Della W. Herndon. Delia Ferrell is said to be the sister-in-law of Wm. R. Herndon. Wm. R. and Della W. Herndon had one child, a son, age 2, Wm. M. Herndon in this census. Would like to know any info on these Herndons also Delia Ferrell and any info on Deila and John Rhodes and their children. Was also wondering if these Herndons were related to the Herndons in Orange County N.C. as these Herndons were also entangled with Rhodes in Orange County. All info appreciated. I may be contacted at [email protected] Thanks, Chris
Would like to hear from any researchers of Orange County Herndons or Trice who may have info on Rhodes of Orange Co. I know these families were very entangled in Orange Co. in the early 1800's. Am particularly looking for information on Robert Rhodes who married Candis Queen Clark in Orange Co. in 1837. All help appreciated. I may be contacted at [email protected] Thanks, Chris

SunflowerThose of you familiar with Orange County, NC history, please take a look at the picture on this URL of the Woods Prize House. This is a photo in the Durham County Library archives. http://dbserv.ils.unc.edu/projects/reavis/photarch/photodetail.asp?ID=a021 Does anyone have ANY idea of what this was, who it was named after or anything about it? Does anyone have the 1840 Orange Co. Census? I need a lookup for James Lynch/Linch page 174. Thank You Wanda
Hello the list, does anyone have connection to a family named MCPHERSON and MCDANIEL I'm looking for info on a Margaret "Peggy" McDANIEL who md 1817 William P. MCPHERSON in Orange Co NC...their descendants...? who her parents were? Thanks, Sharon
Dorothy-- Your private mail keeps bouncing even tho I'm replying to your query. I used both addys you listed & neither work. I am hoping that you are on the Orange Co. list so you see this. Try writing to Orange Co. Usually counties will search 5 years before & 5 years after a date, or you can give them a 5 year period when you think it was. I live in CA & have no copies of wills, just a book of abstracts which doesn't go that late. I am looking for this couple...she graduated from the same college I did in the same year and all of us have lost contact with her. June 5 1830, d. 1896 Thomas RILEY, b. 1833 Quinton RILEY, b. 1836 Martha RILEY, b. 1839. Nathaniel RILEY married Phoebe SLAUGHTER, Sept. 25, 1845, in Person County, NC. Okay folks, sorry for the not so complete information before. I am getting more bits and pieces. Here are more names with approximate dates below: Dozie Allen married Katy Walker (living in Durham 1936-1950's). Their children were: 1. Catherine Allen Mooney 2. Alton Brooks Allen Sr. (born abt 1909) 3. Woodrow Wilson Allen (Woodie) 4. Pansie Allen McLauren 5. Annie Allen Apple 5. Annie Allen Apple's children were: Nancy, Teresa, Wynolia, and Clyde Allen. 4. Pansie Allen McLauren's children were: Snowdeen, Robert McLauren, Julian McLauren (played guitar), and an older brother (name unknown now). 1. Catherine Allen Mooney had a daughter "Cathy" Mooney. A note about the above. I could kick myself for this now, but years ago about 29 years ago, my mother was sent a copy of a rather extensive family tree research document on the above Allen family. She mailed it to her brother who has since lost it. I am hoping someone has a copy of it as the gentleman who mailed it passed on and cannot recall his name. Thanks, christine.

Recently I posted information relating to the ALSTON, DUDLEY, and CAIN families. Please note the following corrections as indicated by the information below. Sarah ALSTON (b. ca 1753), daughter of James and Christian (Lillington) Alston and granddaughter of John Alston (1673-1758), married, Thomas DUDLEY, 29 Jun 1773, in Wake Co., NC.
