One Thomas of Guilford died 1785 and in 1784 he gave one acre from the South east corner of his 200 acres farm for what is now the Hillsdale Baptist Church. The other Thomas Winchester died the same year 1785 in Mecklinburg or that part that became Union Co. Never have we been able to find a connection between these two families of Winchester. I am fishing for Location of my Winchester prior to Guilford Co., NC the earliest records is 1768 tax of John who was in Rowan Co., NC and was probably the same farm that was his in Guilford then 1785 was in Rockingham, the Haw River being the south line and Witty Road the West Line. 2. The information I have mostly on the Outlands that came to the Isle of Wight bu 1650 then to Bertie or that part of the county that became Northampton then to Christian Co, KY that became Trigg Co, the Calloway Co, KY. Most of the information come from book with many families and 12 pages is on the Outlands. The Hicks is there too with a page for their family. All three of these families you mention were in Calloway County, KY and still are. I have a lot of info. on LUKE RAWLS from FAIRFIELD CO., but NEED all the info. I can get on GABRIEL in RICHLAND CO. He sold some of his land to SAMUEL INGRAM which was later sold again and mentions GABRIEL & his wife ELIZABETH. This was in the early 1800's. GABRIEL & LUKE Both moved to ROBERTSON CO., TN. by this time where LUKE died about JULY 1800. SHADRACH RAWLS also showed up there the son of JAMES RAWLS, SR. & SHADRACH'S brother BENJAMIN RAWLS also lived in RICHLAND CO., SC. Leaving behind several family members in the RICHLAND CO., area. BENJAMIN was a Silversmith, clocksmith and builder of coffins. JAMES RAWLS, SR. father of JAMES, JR., BENJAMIN & SHADRACH RAWLS were possibly a son of HARDY RAWLS of NANSEMOND CO., VA. Who was most likely a brother to "OLD LUKE RAWLS" father of LUKE, GABRIEL & JESSE RAWLS. Other names associated with these RAWLS were ,`COON, KINSLER, TRAPP, HAYGOOD, FERGUSON, LEWIS, NEAL, BASS, BEASLEY, McWHORTER. Among others. 1. Charles Coleman (1744-1824), seeking his parents, Robert?
    2. Wes & Sherrie Coleman
    3. RE: Books on families of Northampton or Wayne Counties, North Carolina Is there any mention of a Coleman in the book? Especially Charles or Robert Coleman in Northampton or Wayne County? The parent of Charles, possibly named Robert, is the missing link tieing in some of the Colemans of Greene County, Alabama who descended from Charles Coleman (1744-1824) with the Robert Coleman who, three generations earlier, first settled in Nansemond County, Virginia in 1684 and left there after 1710 for Edgecombe County, North Carolina. The late 51st governor of Mississippi, J. P. Coleman, recorded in his 1965 book, "The Robert Coleman Family From Virginia to Texas, 1652 to 1965", that these Greene County Colemans were associated with the Coleman plantation known as Grassdale and descended from Robert Coleman of Nansemond County, VA; rather than another Robert Coleman who was from Charles City County, VA. Charles Coleman was born in 1744, married Mary Roundtree, and died in 1824. Mary was probably from a line of Roundtrees that came from Ireland and migrated down from Nansemond County Virginia to Edgecombe County North Carolina as the Robert Coleman family did and at about the same time. Charles and Mary had a son, John Coleman who married Rhoda Cobb. John took a servant with him and settled a claim in Greene County, AL, planted a crop, left the servant to care for the property, and returned to NC to claim his family and take them to their new home. His parents, Charles and Mary, and his brother, Wiley, went with him arriving first in Bibb County, and then finally, in Greene County. I found three deed abstracts that give clues on the parentage of Charles, if he is the one named in them: In Deed Book 13, on page 135, we find Elizabeth Roundtree of Wayne County, N.C. deed to Charles Coleman reserving to herself a life-time interest in the land, 15 Apr 1809. [Watson, 1969, p. 83] In Deed Book 17, on page 12, we find Charles Coleman of Cahawba Co, AL sold land granted to him on 09 Mar 1760. Document date: 30 Jun 1819. In Deed Book 21, on page 86, we find Charles Coleman was son of Robert Coleman, deceased, whose father was Robert Coleman, deceased. document date: 11 Nov 1833. [Watson, 1969, p. 219] The source citation above refers to a book by Joseph W. Watson, entitled "Kinfolks of Edgecombe County, North Carolina, 1788-1855," published in Rocky Mount, N.C., and copyright 1969. --- Wes Coleman Friendswood, TX I am author of the third of three books on descendants of a Robert Coleman in Colonial Virginia: Descendants of Robert Coleman of Nansemond County Virginia, 1684 - 1930. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nansemondcolemans/index.html The descendants of a second Robert Coleman who settled first in Charles City County, VA are recorded J. P. Coleman's work: "The Robert Coleman Family From Virginia to Texas, 1652 to 1965" http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nansemondcolemans/chascity/index.htm The descendants of a third Robert Coleman who settled first on Mobjack Bay in Gloucester County, VA are recorded in Sherrieanne Coleman Nicol's work: "The Colemans of Mobjack Bay" http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mobjackbaycolemans/index.html

They also have a terrific newspaper archives that I really enjoy so you might too. I believe the cost is still $35.00 per year for full access to the Godfrey Memorial Library's online service. Before paying $35, check with your local library. If they already have a subscription to Heritage Quest it may be they have the means of allowing you a password which you can use on your home computer to access Heritage Quest. I live in a very small town and they do have this service available. It's certainly worth a try before spending your money. Jean Hancock in TX
