    3. Mary Abigail Jefferson was born about 1810 in Northampton, NC and moved to Davidson Co. Tn. On the 1810 Northampton Census there is a Thomas Jefferson 26-45 with an unnamed wife, 26-45, with two sons under 10, one born about 1803 ( think his name is Henry) the other born about 1808 ( His name thought to be Thomas) and a daughter under 10 born 1810 ( thought to be Mary Abigail Jefferson.) 3. A few years ago a volunteer at the Northampton Co NC archives or website sent me and abstract on a Woodruff estate settlement in 1830 in Northampton County. I really need to know more of how that document reads Is there anyone on this list that has access to records for that time frame ? Following are the scanty details that I have: John Woodruff died in or just before 1830- apparently in Northampton Co NC. There is a notation about his dght Susan being married to Canstillo S. Hill and living in either Davidson or Williamson Co TN and that a Howell Woodruff of Williamson Co TN was appointed as the agent for Susan and her husband to settle the deceased John Woodruff's estate. It would really help me to know the full wording of that document. There was a John Woodruff on the 1820 census for Northampton Co NC which may be the one that was in neighboring Greensville Co VA on the 1810 census. Any assistance will be truly appreciated. 3. Can anyone share info with Jerry about his McDowell family or about the Griggs family? Hello, I was doing research on the web for genealogy and just ran across the fact that you had the Will of John Griggs, Northampton County, NC on your site. One of the witnesses to that will was James McDowell, a direct ancestor of mine (see link below if you wish). Do you know anything more than what the will states and/or are you a descendant of John Griggs? I have a lot of unanswered questions about the 100 acres of land that he gives each to daughter Mary McDowell and son William Griggs. Thanks, Jerry Jerry McDowell Media Specialist http://www.sonstarmedia.com http://www.mcdowellgenealogy.com Will of John Griggs, dated February 11, 1767, and proved in September Term of Court, 1771. To daughter, Mary McDowal, 100 acres. To son, William Griggs, plantation and all remaining land. Remainder of property to be equally divided between wife, Mary Griggs, and son, William Griggs. If either son, William Griggs, or daughter, Mary McDowal, should die without heirs, then land devised to that child should go to the other child. If both shall die without heirs, land should fall to grandson, John Griggs, son of Joshua Griggs. Wife, Mary Griggs, and son, William Griggs, named as Executors. Witnesses were Matta Exum, Thos. Law, and Matthew Exum, Mary Griggs and William Griggs qualified as Executors. Will Book 1, page 202.

I am going to look up a few things in Jackson, NC at the deed office soon and I hopefully will be able to find this location. I have seen some of Stephen Raglands deeds and they mention Turbevilles run as a boundary. This branch is called Troublefield Run on todays maps. I already have a good idea about where Raglands was located. I do want to check out some things so I can narrow it down more. I believe the First railroad in the country ended near there at Blakely in 1830s. Halcott Pride inherited the landing from his father William Pride who bought it from the Raglands after Stephen died. I'll be in touch soon. 3. Hi Betty, Your description of Stephen Ragand's land is what I just found on Collett's 1770 Map. I was able to google it and got one printoff of the location. I also just now found by googling Stephen Ragland to William Short of Northampton County 21 Mar 1744 on the south side of Turbeville's Run. May Court 1745. Stephen died in 1747 in Northampton County. I didn't see the map of Prides Ferry and the Weldon Bridge. If you could send that to me I would appreciate it. I descend from Stephen Ragland's daughter Agnes Ragland who married Ephraim Merritt and after he died she married my grandfather Joseph Langston about 1760 in Granville Co., NC. 3. Hi Ken, I have read in the Ragland books (two volumes) that Stephen Ragland started out with around 460 acres and it grew to over 1,600 acres by the time he died in Northampton County in 1747. I heard from another person on the list as I found that Stephen ran a ferry. As I proceeded searching I found that it is near Arthur's Creek and near Weldon. NC. I found Collett's 1770 Map that shows Ragland Ferry north of the Roanoke River from Weldon. If you can find out anymore on Stephen's land I certainly would appreciate it.His land started in Bertie County and then was part of Northampton and as it grew over 1, 600 acres some of it might have also gone into Halifax County where the ferry was at Weldon. Anything you can find I would be very appreciatrive. Thank you in advance. Happy Thanksgiving !!
