Laura, Are there any Barkley's in the books? Deborah
I thought that maybe someone researching in Northampton might could use this information. There is an old Maget cemetery located beside the Old Maget/Jenkins home in Potecasi, Northampton County, NC. This cemetery has a number of graves in it, but the tombstones have disappeared over the years or they were never marked. Just indentures remain. It also once had a large grape Vine arbor over it, but that too has now fallen and is no long there. A cousin cleaned this cemetery from all of the briars, trees, etc and found these two remaining tombstones: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Old Maget Cemetery Ann E. I could not locate them on the 1880 census. Since the house is located way off the main road, maybe the census taker didn't visit them. 1850 Northampton Co., NC John E Maget 36, farmer, b. I have no birth for him....supposedly he was born in Baltimore MD. married there in 1798 Dec 13...and was in the census Northampton NC...then moved on to Warren Co. Ohio. He married Nancy Hite. He's the only one I have that was in NC. I'd like the book he's in.....if he is... Dear Ms. Willis, I have a copy of Hofmann's Abstracts of Wills 1759-1808; but I am wondering if you work is more inclusive, as I notice in her book there is only ONE will from 1759 to the 1770s. For the past 50 years (plus), I have been researching the TARVER family from Northampton Co., NC, and would like any added data that your volumes include which were not in the Hofmann book. As most of the Tarvers moved out of Northampton by 1815, I probably would be more interested in the first 6 volumes. Would you please let me know which volumes would be of interest to me? Also, how do I send you payment to you for the ones I do purchase from you? Thanks so much. Robert P. In reference to Laura Willis' abstract books: I also want to ditto Deloris Williams' remarks below---Laura Willis' work is superior. You can not go wrong in buying her abstracts if you are interested in the counties that she abstracts. ==================================================== With all of the questions I've seen recently about Laura's books, I thought I'd add my 2 cents. I have previously ordered several of her Warren County, North Carolina Will books and they are extraordinary, she does a very good job of transcribing the actual record and I am very appreciative of her work. **************One site keeps you connected to all your email: AOL Mail, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail.
