    3. RICHARDSON, PEED, YOUNG, BASS, BRASWELL Have interest in Richardson's also. I have been attempting for some time to find what the connection is between a William Richardson and Henry Peed (my ancestor). Found them together in Norfolk Co, VA and then again in the area that was Edgecombe Co, NC. Found in Norfolk Co: 10 Jun 1765 Henry Peed on Portsmouth to New Mill Creek tithable list with William Richardson (in Richardson's HH) Found in Edgecombe Co: Apr 1765 William Richardson purchases land from Willobe Tucker 9 Aug 1768 Henry Peed purchases 40 acres from Willobe Tucker By 1779 either the men were in Nash Co or the boundaries changed... area is Peachtree Creek. Men mentioned owning land adj to Henry Peed were Stephen Young, Henry Braswell, Isaac Bass. Witnesses mentioned: Thomas Moriss, Mathew Mishan, Preston Morris. No one seems to know of William Richardson... do you have data on a man by that name in the 1764-1779 time period or on the Richardson family? RICE, ROWE, STILLEY Have a John Rice (parents unknown) who marr Dorothy Rowe estimate 1770-1780 (d/o Joshua Rowe & Sarah of Beaufort Co). Also have Elizabeth Rice (parents unknown) marr Ishmael Stilley 3 Dec 1789 Craven Co (Ishmael s/o John Stilley & Grace) Rae Jean in Tennessee raejean1@earthlink.net ----- Original Message ----- From: <davecarl@bellsouth.net> To: <NCNASH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 23, 2002 9:30 AM Subject: [NCNASH-L] Re: Henderson Rice/Pleasant Henderson Rice : This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. : http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VUB.2ACE/310.1.1.1.1 : Message Board Post: : : I am connected by a colateral line, the Richardsons. The Richardsons of Nash and the Rices have intermarried more than once, as well. There was also a Richardson Rice. : : I recently received the Wills and Deeds of Nash County compiled by both Dr. Stephen E. Bradley and Timothy Rackley. Prior to this I had not been able to find very much on Nash that was helpful to me. The first mention of the Rice's was a North Carolina land grant to John Rice for 400 acres on the waters of Lee's Creek and Spring Branch in 1783. Then in 1790 he acquires 140 acres on Turkey Creek. In 1796 John Rice acquires at auction 100 acres on the south side of the Tar River. Then in 1810 John Rice and Hopkins Rice both witness a deed on some Turkey Creek property. Where the confusion comes in is that it looks as if there are 3 John Rices, two of whom are at different times referred to as John Rice, Senior. One is married to Martha and one to Elizabeth, I think. Is this what you have worked out? It looks as if Martha and Patsy are one and the same from the Wills, doesn't it.

But I have been working out the Bryant lines in Nash County to try to reach our next generation back. William Bryant's parents are William Bryant and Mary "Polly" Lewis. Two of their daughters also married Rice's. The two daughters were Elizabeth and Patsy. I believe the Patsy is the same Martha that you reference in your posting. This Patsy was married to John Rice. Elizabeth was married to Benjamin Rice. By the way, the Rice that married Mourning Bryant was Nicholson N. Rice. I have quite a bit of documentation on Rice's that I have picked up in my research. I am still trying to prove that the above Martha was the Patsy Rice mentioned in the will of the older William Bryant. How are you tied in to these lines?

William Bryant's Will shows that his "daughter, Mary M. Rice, wife of Henderson Rice" was acknowledged in his Will. When William Bryant's wife, Susan Bryant died, in 1865 she left her daughter Polly Rice, wife of Henderson Rice $100.00. (At that time Polly was a common nickname for Mary.) The Bryant's other daughter, Mourning Rice, wife of Nickerson N. Rice was left $400. Mary or "Polly" and Mourning's brothers were: Gideon B. Bryant, Thomas N. Bryant, and it sounds as if there were other brothers, William T. Bryant and Evan N. Bryant. There is also another Will written in 1855 of Martha Rice in which she acknowledges her son Henderson Rice as the executor of her Will. John Rice, Senior, acknowledges his son Henderson Rice in his Will of 1845.

    1. Re: [NCNASH-L] Temperance Hendrick
    2. Amazing enough, this past weekend I was looking at the names listed in the Illegimate children of Nash Cty, NC 1787-1833. I remembered a reference to a Temperance Hendrick vs. Pilgrim L. Williams / illegimate child name Granberry Hendrick. It also mentions the will which included Nancy Strickland and the others. References to Temperance were made in court dates of Feb 1819; Nov 1821 (2x); May 1822 & Aug 1822. This may be yet another lead for you if it is indeed your Temperance. The Illegitimate children records are on the Nash Co. Genweb page. Tim Rackley was the transcriber and it was put on the website by D. Stoddard. Hope this helps. Argyrie
