We may have spoken before, but if we did, I don't think it was concerning the Toney/Tony query. I just became aware of the Toney queries recently. Actually, I do come down to Carolina at least once a year. I pay my respects to my parents graves and so on. Last year I was down for the Pettiford reunion in Rocky Mount. There is one planned for this summer as well. Hopefully, it will be an annual thing. I already know my own mother's family/heritage(her direct ancestry), and my fathers, but getting "peripheral" ancestry(cousins, uncles, great uncles and so on of my parents) is a bit harder. That is why I was hoping you might be of some help, because you are part of the Toney heritage. Could you tell me Helen's maiden name? I'd appreciate that, and it would help me make some connections. When I was speaking to people at the reunion, they seem to only know basically what I knew. I had a good time, but I did not learn a lot of new ancestral information. Thanks for your help. I'm here to help you, if you ever request it. That is what ancestral hunting is about, helping each other in revealing the past. Leamond

I don't know the parents of Geneva.. Have you anything else you can share with me that might be useful. David was born in 1888, and died in the 1950's.

We both are related to Pettifords, and Helen is also related to them through her father's side. I believe I gave you that information some time in the past. In order for you to establish a tie you will need to (get yourself down to North Carolina) and find out more about your mother's family.

Had I not been curious about the obituary I read in the News & Observer yesterday; and made that little note on this mail listing, I never would have the family connection I have now. Lovette Taylor Brantley is in my husband's lines. I am not sure of the family connection just yet, but I know it will come soon. I have a sister in law that accuses me of wanting to add the world to my Family Tree Maker program. If I should find any other Brantley in these lines, may I ask you?

She was born 19 April 1919 in Nash Co., NC and she died 22 May 2003 in Durham, Durham, NC at 11 PM at Durham Regional Hospital, surrounded by loving members of her family. Viola married Arnold Green Brantley, son of Arvie Maynard and Lydia Rebecca (Deans) Brantley, on 17 November 1934 in Halifax, Halifax, VA. Arnold and Viola had two biological children and Viola and Arnold legally adopted Arnold's niece, when said niece was a small child. Arvie Maynard Brantley's parents were Zachariah Taylor Brantley and ?Lina? Jane Adams...not nee Odom. Zack/Z. T. Brantley was the son of Lovette Taylor Brantley and Mary Eliza (Brantley) Brantley. While Lovette Taylor Brantley was not, biologically, a Brantley, his wife was the daughter of Sherrod and Tobitha/Tabitha (Stokes) Brantley. Viola played the guitar beautifully, cooked a MEAN pot of collards and cooked bread puddings and pineapple cakes to die for! She wrote and sang Gospel songs, in her younger years. In her latter years, she became an avid race car fan...surprising all who knew her. She also loved the Young and the Restless daytime soap...one of her few "vices." She was a beautiful person and a warm, loving, giving individual. Viola always rose to the occasion...whatever that took. I am SO honored to have been graced by her unconditional love, as her niece, for all of my life. She will be so sorely missed by many, many people.
