Becky, >From the entries in the book, it appears that the Freemans lived in the northern part what is now Moore county, south of the Chatham County line, and along possibly various tributaries of the Deep River. You have the one entry I gave you earlier, below. There is one more entry about locations, which is in referfence to the 1815 Moore County Landowners, which states, on page 474 of the book: "Page 471, column 1, begining with the Daniel Clark entry, on Jackson's and Drowning Creeks, but begining with the entry of Reuben Freeman, column 2 includes Buffalo, Deep River, Robbins, Bear and Cabin creeks, etc., up to the county line in the Jugtown region........" As for the Freemans in the 1850 Moore County census, there is an entry about location at the bottom of page 243 in the book, which is one page prior to the census page with William B. Freeman: "These families were in the northern fringes of the county, but on the south (more properly, west) of the river (He means Deep River). The Williamsons originally settled on and about Grassy Creek, southeast of Jug Town." On the next page, 244, the William B. Freeman family is living next to (who knows how far apart that is!) the William Williamson family, and at the bottom of that page, it says: "As noted before, the Williamsons were originally settled on Grassy Creek and its vicinity." Here's a list of books about Moore County, on the Moore County USGenWeb site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncmoore/books.html Jim -------Original Message------- From: gbadue Date: Sunday, February 02, 2003 12:45:40 PM To: Jim Gilmer Subject: Re: Freeman Hi Jim, Would you have any idea in what part of Moore Co. these Freeman's lived? Also, is there any other book, etc. that I could obtain more info on these people? Again, I thank you for writing me back and the good info. Becky gbadeu@cablenet-va.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim Gilmer To: gbadue@cablenet-va.com Sent: Saturday, February 01, 2003 2:34 PM Subject: Freeman There's a William B. Freeman listed as a carpenter in the 1850 census, age 37; his wife, Elizabeth, age 32, and two children; James A., age 9; John W., age 6. Then there's a Henry Freeman, age 42, his wife Martha, age 30; Mary, age 16; Nancy, age 12;Emelline, age 6, Elias, age 3; and Lydia, age 2. Then, there's a William Freeman, age 66, Elizabeth, age 66, Mary, age 66; Reuben, 33, Elizabeth, 30; Martha, 28; Enoch, 36; Mary, 32, Alexander, 3; Aaron, 2; Louisa, 3/12. Looks like a lot of adult Freemans in one household! On page 315 of the book: Freeman--On Big Juniper or McLendon's Creek. In a list of Moore County Landowners-1815, Reuben Freeman is listed as owning 3 tracts of land; 100 acres valued at $100; 100 acres valued at $100; and 89 acres valued at $200. That's all there is in the book on the Freemans. NC. Rueben was in the l790 census and then a William. In the book of Moore Co., does it have any info on the Freeman family that seemed to have remained in the county at least until l850 and probably longer? Your help would be appreciated.
