    3. I don't know about it. I've not lived here very long. But, I can tell you from experience in other states that state agencies, such as state supported hospitals, prisons and orphanages, didn't always register or record their records with the state. Or if they did, they aren't kept in the Vital Records Dept. ((I'm assuming that you wrote to the N.C. Dept. of Vital Records?) This is from the state archives.. For death certificates from 1913 through 1955, write the North Carolina State Archives, enclosing an $10.00. search and handling fee. (I'm not sure this has been updated, as I know that a search fee for the genealogy section of the search room is now $12.00 for out of staters) So, perhaps you weren't searching in the right place?) Let me check on the hospital/prison, and get back to you. It may be Wed. before I can find anything open. Sue P.S. which Justice family are you (or your husband descended from?) Mine are the John Justice of N.C. & GA. ajusbjus wrote: > > This is slightly off the subject, but do you know anything about the old TB > hospital? I hear it is a prison now.
