    1. [NCMOORE] Shields of NC & AL
    2. Paul & Fredreica Speyer
    3. Is anyone else researching this Shields family? Thanks! Descendants of Elizabeth Paulling and John Shields Generation No. 1 1. JOHN SHIELDS was born January 16, 1781 in NC (Probably Moore County), and died February 14, 1859 in Dallas County, Alabama. He married (1st) ELIZABETH1 PAULlING, who was born in Orangeburgh District, SC. He married (2nd) Keziah Hagan February 7, 1835 In Alabama. Notes for ELIZABETH PAULlING: I believe Elizabth Paulling/Pauling/Paulding to be descended from Robert Paulling and his wife, Harriette, who were both born in Sussex, England and who came to America between the years 1725 and 1732. The plantation home of Robert and Harriett was named "Inter Sylvas". Robert and Harriet Paulling had sixteen children. Edward Ruffin Paulling has a wonderful site at Family Tree Maker that concerns two of the known sons, William Paulling and John Paulling. John, the elder, died young. I do not know if he married or had children. William was married three times. I believe my Elizabeth is the daughter of John or William or that there was another brother out of the sixteen children. Notes for John Shields: I believe the William B. Shields on this Perry Co Census 1850 is the brother of my John Shields household # 19 Wm B Shields 64 NC Hamilton 24 SC Archie 22 SC Benjamin 20 SC Wm 16 AL John G 12 AL Martha 16 AL Delaware 14 (f) AL Missouri 12 AL Catherine Cady 45 NC George Cocke 24 John Johnson 27 Henry Chambers 28 Children of ELIZABETH PAULING and JOHN SHIELDS are: i. Broun wrote at first from Montgomery and then from the plantation he had purchased near Church Hill in Lowndes County, Alabama. A letter of 29 January 1844 to Colonel Richard Singleton from William B. Shields in Perry County, Alabama, describes the plantation of another transplanted South Carolinian. Colonel Richard Singleton, b. 5 Nov 1776, Camden District, South Carolina; d. 26 Nov 1852, Sumter District, SC (Kingsville train accident) was also a planter of Rutherford County, North Carolina. 2. v.
