JOHN SHIELDS was born January 16, 1781 in NC (Probably Moore County), and died February 14, 1859 in Dallas County, Alabama. He married (1st) ELIZABETH1 PAULlING, who was born in Orangeburgh District, SC. He married (2nd) Keziah Hagan February 7, 1835 In Alabama. Notes for ELIZABETH PAULlING: I believe Elizabth Paulling/Pauling/Paulding to be descended from Robert Paulling and his wife, Harriette, who were both born in Sussex, England and who came to America between the years 1725 and 1732. The plantation home of Robert and Harriett was named "Inter Sylvas". Robert and Harriet Paulling had sixteen children. Edward Ruffin Paulling has a wonderful site at Family Tree Maker that concerns two of the known sons, William Paulling and John Paulling. John, the elder, died young. I do not know if he married or had children. William was married three times. I believe my Elizabeth is the daughter of John or William or that there was another brother out of the sixteen children.
