Bart, Don't know if this is your McKenzie but here is some info from Rassie Wicker's book on Ancient Records of Moore Co. The first of the name in Moore was John MacKenzie who was a captain at Moore's Creek (battle of Rev War). He lived on south side of Lower Little River, between Thagard's and Lakeview. Hugh McKenzie whose wife was Margaret was the ancestor of the present day McKenzies. He died before 1789. His widow lived on south side of Lower Little River. This land was later passed on to William and Johnny McK. Hugh McK. and others of his family are buried here (this is near present day Culdee Church) on top of hill at deep cut in road. Daniel McK. lived on McLendon's Creek. Another Daniel was an old man in 1785 and exempted form poll tax. Murdoch McK. lived at McKenzie's Bridge on Drowning Creek. This is where the Morganton Rd crossed on way to Jackson Springs. There was a William McK. on Deep River near Carbonton. He was a partner of Cornelius Tyson. Gaye If you touch a stone, you touch the past. If you touch a flower, you touch the present. If you touch a child, you touch the future.
Thanks, Gaye. No clue at this point but would guess they are related somehow. Thanks for sending. I really appreciate it. Murdoch McKenzie married Rebekka Tyson, whose father, Benjamin Tyson, was an older brother of my ggg grandfather. Rebekka and Murdoch had two sons: Henry McKenzie (1804-1863) married Amanda Talmadge and their sons were Henry, William Jenkins, and Chalmers. Murdoch and Rebekka's other son was Benjamin McKenzie (1815-1859). Much of the McKenzie information is based on someone else's research and I've not verified it. I can vouch for the Tyson connections to Murdoch Mckenzie, who came from Scotland and had two brothers, Donald and John - neither of whom lived to adulthood. Murdoch McKenzie was a state senator from Moore Co. in 1802. Betsy Tyson

His widow lived on south side of Lower Little River. Can you give me a complete list of Hugh McKenzie's children? The only one I have in my files so far is John. Also, from somewhere on-line I got that Hugh died in Greenville SC, which doesn't seem to fit with his widow staying on in Moore County. Is this not correct? Does anyone have wills, estate papers, other documents for this family? -- Elizabeth Harris ncgen@mindspring.com NCGenWeb project: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/ Winston-Salem NC area genealogy: http://www.fmoran.com/
