    3. Thanks for the info. My grandmother died in 1923 and grand dad went to Aberdeen,Nc. to stay with his sister. He had TB and was close to dying even then. He died by 1924 and i believe he was in that TB hospital. I can't find a record of his death. I sent to Raleigh for it but no luck. I also sent to Moore Co. I believe Hoke was part of Moore at that time. 2. McCain was a TB hospital for many years. Later they specialized in just lung or chest ailments. My brother had a pneumonia (very acute) caused by breathing chemicals in a photo lab in the Air Force. In 1973 after the acuted phase was over but his lungs had not expanded properly he age 26 was sent there for several months. After several months they opened his chest and tore scar tissue off the interior of the lungs and he has been fine ever since. I don't know when it became a prison. I thought some of the patients that had been at Dix Hill (state mental hospital)for many years were sent there. I think that is where my dads 1st cousin who was at Dix Hill since the late 30's died last year. I spent 3 months at Dix Hill as a student nurse in 1960 so knew this cousin. He was retarded with a turn toward instant violence but never did anything you could call criminal. Interesting. I would like to know more, but It was a TB hospital then expanded to more chest ailments. Kay

    3. Hello Don, I made it to the library today, and got a listing of the cemeteries. There is a list on my Moore Co. page. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncmoore/ I forgot to tell you to look there, <g> but there are others that had been found after that was put up. (I just took over the page from the previous coordinator) So, to answer your questions...There is a listing for Beulah Hill Cemetery & a Beulah Hill CHURCH Cemetery, Cameron Presbyterian Church Cemetery, & a Cameron Cemetery (which may be the First Baptist Church but not listed that way. Red Branch Church Cemetery & Lamms Grove Cemetery. So, looks as if all the ones you were interested in are there. If anyone can help me with the relationships of the following to my BRYANT/GRAHAM, would appreciate it. Thank you very much, Cathy Hart Farris I have a few deeds describing land.In the various deeds some of the names adjacent to and associated with Michael BRYANT and Robert GRAHAM are: Thomas GRAHAM dec'd by 1818, John LEWIS, Patience BARRETT, T. BRANSON, John COX, George GRAHAM, Thomas COLLINS, Drury SMITH, Head of Little River and Yadkin Road, is this still there? James BRYANT 1820 (must be of the BRYANT House?) THOMAS FRY 1820 (is he related to the Elizabeth FRY that married Kenneth McKENZIE 1822?), McLEOD's (is this a name that married into BRYANT's?) A man named Jesse PHILLIPS at Joel Road (is this road still there?) In 1820 Michael BRYANT sells 93ac to Needham BRYANT at McLendon's Creek, witnessed by Thomas BRYANT and M. McCRUMMEN (is this Needham son of Micheal or brother? who is this Thomas BRYANT and M. McCRUMMEN?) 1824 Littleton GRAHAM, he must be related to Robert GRAHAM and Leah GRAHAM BRYANT?

There appeared to be two Fry families settled in Moore in 1790=Joseph and Thomas. Joseph bought 300 a enterd by Francis Stribbling, on Killet's Creek, west of Hill Crest, and also entered and purchased addional adj land. It is said he and his family are buried on this land. Thomas Fry made an entry dated May 15th 1787 on the waters of Herd's Creek adj the land where the old store stood. this land also adj the Siler lnad, and it may be that Siler (who was in the land before Fry) operated this store. the late John McQueen, who for a time lived nearby, pointed out a spot which he recalled as being called "the old store place." This was near what was called until a few years ago, Stone's Crossing, on the old Carthage Railroad. The present road from Union Church, by way of the Carolina Power & Light substation at the crossing of route 27, and leading into 15-501 at fisher's Filling Stat, passes near the supposed store site. Thomas Fry seems to have left Moore, or died, pretty early. His son Locker Fry cont to live on the place, and is buried on the land his father entered. His wife was a sister of Jesse Bean of Bean's Bridge. His tomb bears the following inscription,"Here Lieth Lokker Fry, placed here at his request for he said "there is no communion with the soul". The little cemetery is walled with brick, and is located abt half way from Stone's Crossing and Herd's Creek. Lokker had one daughter, Annette, who, it is said, married Anthony Graham . 3. Cathy, there is a Historic Bryant House, according to a pamplet I received from the Moore County Historical Association. P.O. Box 324, Southern Pines, NC 28388 910-692-2051.... It has a sketch of the house with the following info. BRYANT HOUSE James Bryant acquired the McLendon Place from his father Michael early in the nineteenth century with the McLendon Cabin already in place. Bryant later built the manor house there about 1820. James Bryant's great-granddaughter, Flossie Bryant Davis and her children gave the houses with 3.4 acres to the Moore County Historical Asociation in 1969. Restoration of the structure in the early 1970's included straightening the chimneys and replacement of the shake roof. Special features include two fine mantels, handmade doors and window sash, hand-hewn heart pine girders and sills. Neither dwelling had been altered prior to restoration and both had been continuously occupied until the 1940's. Furnishings for the house were acquired for the Association by Mrs. Ernest Ives, Mrs. John Labouissee and the Davis family. Both the Bryant Manor House and the McLendon Cabin were opened to the public in May 1976. Mrs. Davis, then 91 years old, attended the opening with several of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Davis was born and grew up in the house and raised her own family of six boys and seven girls there. More info: The Bryant House and the McLendon Cabin are located at Harris Crossroads in upper Moore County. From the traffic circle at Pinehurst, take 15-501 towards Carthage, turn west on NC 73, go to the intersection of Beulah Hill Church Road and take a right. Go straight through two crossroads, the second being Harris Crossroads. The houses are located down a hill on your right at a State highway marker. The houses are open Sundays from 2-5 and by appointment. Call site Manager Max Richardson at 947-3995 for information or to schedule a tour. I hope this helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cathy Farris" <cfarris@pacific.net> To: <NCMOORE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 30, 2001 10:40 PM Subject: [NCMOORE] McKENZIE/FRY marriage > Dear List, > > My ancestors Kenneth McKENZIE married Elizabeth FRY in Carthage, Moore Co 1822. > > I am planning a trip in January and would like to see this area. If you will tell me what you want from the cemetery book, I can make copies for you. I don't think they are more than .15 a page. Let me know. Sue Ashby, CC, Moore Co. 1. [NCMOORE] McKENZIE/FRY marriage
    2. Cathy Farris
    3. Dear List, My ancestors Kenneth McKENZIE married Elizabeth FRY in Carthage, Moore Co 1822. I am planning a trip in January and would like to see this area. Does anyone know these names? Does anyone have any research tips for me in this area? Kenneth was a carriage maker, so was his son Colin McKENZIE. My ancestor Michael BRYAN married Leah GRAHAM there in Moore Co. I have been told there is a BRYANT HOUSE there that is from this family. Also Elisha BRYAN married Sarah AUTRY in Moore Co 12 June 1810, does anyone know them? Some of the data listed below reveals the whereabouts of my ancestors, can anyone give me an idea if there is still something to see at these places? Thanks, Cathy Hart Farris cfarris@pacific.net
