    2. Main branch of Charlotte Library downtown has a very large collection of genealogical materials from most all NC counties as well as those of other states. Also many census records and historical materials. One of the best libraries I've been in with family research materials. Also Rowan Co Library in Salisbury NC. Rowan was formed in 1753 from Anson. 3. A trip to NC? Then you "MUST" visit the NC Archives in Raleigh. Visit their website to get directions, but a trip to NC for genealogy must include at least 2 days in Raleigh. In Greensboro? Where I'm located? :-) Actually Pam, all NC counties have a Register of Deeds which is the best place for old records, other than the Archives in Raleigh. But, some counties are better than others in terms of genealogy information and almost all counties have local genealogical associations. If you come to Greensboro, I'd visit Guilford College if you have Quaker ancestors. Before any of that though, do some searching on the web of the NC county sites and see what you can get. 3. Becky, >From the entries in the book, it appears that the Freemans lived in the northern part what is now Moore county, south of the Chatham County line, and along possibly various tributaries of the Deep River. You have the one entry I gave you earlier, below. There is one more entry about locations, which is in referfence to the 1815 Moore County Landowners, which states, on page 474 of the book: "Page 471, column 1, begining with the Daniel Clark entry, on Jackson's and Drowning Creeks, but begining with the entry of Reuben Freeman, column 2 includes Buffalo, Deep River, Robbins, Bear and Cabin creeks, etc., up to the county line in the Jugtown region........" As for the Freemans in the 1850 Moore County census, there is an entry about location at the bottom of page 243 in the book, which is one page prior to the census page with William B. Freeman: "These families were in the northern fringes of the county, but on the south (more properly, west) of the river (He means Deep River). The Williamsons originally settled on and about Grassy Creek, southeast of Jug Town." On the next page, 244, the William B. Freeman family is living next to (who knows how far apart that is!) the William Williamson family, and at the bottom of that page, it says: "As noted before, the Williamsons were originally settled on Grassy Creek and its vicinity." Murdoch McKenzie married Rebekka Tyson, whose father, Benjamin Tyson, was an older brother of my ggg grandfather. Rebekka and Murdoch had two sons: Henry McKenzie (1804-1863) married Amanda Talmadge and their sons were Henry, William Jenkins, and Chalmers. Murdoch and Rebekka's other son was Benjamin McKenzie (1815-1859). Much of the McKenzie information is based on someone else's research and I've not verified it. I can vouch for the Tyson connections to Murdoch Mckenzie, who came from Scotland and had two brothers, Donald and John - neither of whom lived to adulthood. Murdoch McKenzie was a state senator from Moore Co. in 1802. Betsy Tyson

    2. Bart, Don't know if this is your McKenzie but here is some info from Rassie Wicker's book on Ancient Records of Moore Co. The first of the name in Moore was John MacKenzie who was a captain at Moore's Creek (battle of Rev War). He lived on south side of Lower Little River, between Thagard's and Lakeview. Hugh McKenzie whose wife was Margaret was the ancestor of the present day McKenzies. He died before 1789. His widow lived on south side of Lower Little River. This land was later passed on to William and Johnny McK. Hugh McK. and others of his family are buried here (this is near present day Culdee Church) on top of hill at deep cut in road. Daniel McK. lived on McLendon's Creek. Another Daniel was an old man in 1785 and exempted form poll tax. Murdoch McK. lived at McKenzie's Bridge on Drowning Creek.
