    1. [NCMOORE] Moore County Genealogical Society Seminar
    2. To celebrate 20 years the MCGS is sponsoring a seminar on March 20, 2004 at the Country Club of Whispering Pines; 9am - 3:30am. Followed by the MCGS Annual Meeting at 3:45. For both novice and expert genealogists this is a must meeting. All presentations will be given by speakers with outstanding national reputations, Helen F.M.Leary and Carrie Adamson. Two presentations will be given in the morning, and following lunch at the Club, two more will be given in the afternoon. We will learn how early settlers got here, how they lived, and how to track migration and to research names, people, places and things. Vendors of genealogy materials, Margaret Hoffman, Dr AB Pruitt, Scott Craig of Willow Bend Books, and representatives of the North Carolina Genealogical Society will also be present. Cost (including lunch) to hear and learn from these outstanding presenters will be $35 for non-members before March 6 and $40 thereafter. If you join the Moore County Genealogical Society (annual dues of $12 for individuals or $15 for a family) before the seminar, cost will be reduced $5. Further information and registration forms may be obtained at the MCGS website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncmcgs/

    1. Re: [NCMOORE] 1790 Census for Barber Surname
    2. Hi Sue, Thanks for your reply. The reason I didn't list a given name in my email is because I'm not sure which Barber it is. I've been told by a cousin that it could have been Benjamin Barber or Jeremiah Barber. The DOB would be about 1775 (my guess) and I think he married a Nancy ? The reason I'm looking in Moore Co., NC is that my great grandfather, Benjamin E. Barber (b. Mar 1,1866; d. Feb 10, 1931) was born there and is also buried there. The only other info my cousin gave me is that some of the Moore Co. Barbers moved to Richmond Co., NC in the middle to late 1800s. I don't have access to any paid census, but I did find a Benjamin Barber in the 1806 Richmond Co., NC Taxpayers List. I'm not sure if this is one of my ancestors or not. Any help you can give me will be appreciated Sue. And thanks in advance for trying. Sherry

    3. Hello Sherry I don't see a single Barber in Moore Co. in 1790. There is a Gray Barber (actually that is Barbee) in Chatham Co., however. What is the first name? I can check the index for other counties nearby. 3. The CENSUS project is a good place to search. Go to: http://www.us-census.org It is indexed by county. There is also a link there to contact a person who will do a look up for you. It is an interactive Forum: http://www.us-census.org/webbbs/lookups/index.cgi Click on: "post New Message" Then enter everything that you have and request a look up. 3. Hey again: The book that is listed on e-bay is the one that I mentioned in an other post. In fact, I am setting here looking at it as I type. As I said before, it is worth having because of my age I recognize some of the pictures. On page 30, is the railroad station in West End, with a picture of Miss Irma Cheek (Mrs Carl Ritter) mother of one of my best friends. Also there are pictures of the "Bryant-McLendon House that I have spent many nights. The Davis family were friends also. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cathy Farris" <cfarris@pacific.net> To: <NCMOORE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 02, 2004 1:19 AM Subject: [NCMOORE] Moore Co Publication > Dear Group, > > Does anyone on this list own this book? 3. I knew I should have kept my mouth shut, this is what happens to me when I decide I know it all. I just got a E-mail from a Emily Sund that says: A History of Moore County, North Carolina was written by Sellers and the Library there has a copy of it. Does anyone know of this book. The only ones I can find at the Library for Moore County is Mr. Blackwell's books. Does anyone know of this book by Sellers.

    3. Hey Everyone: The book that is being listed on E-Bay, is written by Richard J. Schloegl and title is "Images of America, Moore County". If you are in the Moore County area, you can purchase it at The Country Book Store in Southern Pines, or the Moore County Historical Association has it for sale also. I bought mine on a trip to Moore County (home) for $16.99 at the Country Book Store. It's published by Arcadia Publishing, One Washington Center, Dover, NH 03820. It's a small "Coffee Table" book, mostly pictorial. The Moore County Historical Association web site has a order blank that you can print and order, also they have other books for sale about Moore County. Happy New Year. Joy
