Does anyone know where this old nursing home is. I have heard its back in the woods(and supposed to be haunted)?
I believe R. G. Fry served until Charles Jasper McDonald was elected. Sheriff McDonald served longer than any other one before or since.
Visited the library today came across an old newspaper clipping. Sorry there was no name of newspaper or contributor. Had the following: Sheriffs of Moore County William Scoggin, 1784 Richard Fagan, 1785 Cornelius Dowd, 1787 William Barrett, 1790 Malcolm Gilchrist, 1792 Malcolm McNeill, 1794 John McIver, 1808 John McLennon, 1816 John McLennon, 1816 Duncan Murchison, 1820 Daniel McNeill, 1824 Norman McDonald, 1832-34 Evander McIntosh, 1834-40 Alexander Kelly, 1840-44 William Wadsworth, 1844-46 AR Wadsworth, 1846-50 K H Worthy, 1850-56 Thomas W Ritter, 1856-60 K H Worthy, 1860-71 John M Morgan, 1871-76 J J Wicker, 1876-80 William M Black, 1880-88 John L Currie, 1888-96 S M Jones, 1896-1902 Alex Turner, 1902-06 A C Kelly, 1906-10 D Al Blue, 1910-24 R G Fry, 1924- Also came across an article about the school system. The school board as used today did not come into existence until 1902, when NC changed laws and the formation of schools.
Thank you for your help Jan

Just get on their website at: http://www.co.moore.nc.us/ I'd look at the Clerk to the Board of Commissioners, which is the position charged with keeping county records for the Board. The Register of Deeds might help as well, but check the clerk first. Have you looked at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncmoore/officials.htm The Board of Education lists are likely a little harder to find but, they should be in the history books of the county. Sorry, I'm not at home right now or I would go look in the library for you. Sue Ashby, Co. Coordinator, Moore Co.
