    1. Moore Co., NC Heritage update; click on new website!
    2. Don & Becky Mills
    3. Hi Ann and all Moore County friends: Our May 20 meeting was well attended and very productive. We thank everyone! Next meeting will be on June 17 (we'll probably change location, just a few blocks down the street...stay tuned) Brochures will soon be printed and widely distributed. However, ye olde WWW is the best place to quickly find information. Just click on: http://www.nccountyheritage.com/mooreco.html Even, though it is in the embryonic stages, you'll find a wealth of information there. Now to your specific questions. 1. Sounds like a pre-1840 Pioneer to us! Thus giving you 500 words and a picture. 2. 500 words and one picture (per household) are free. Additional words are @10 cents. However, you may be OK. Look at this link: http://www.nccountyheritage.com/mooreco_order.html You may be able to submit a "modern" article by meeting the 3 fold criteria, found in Roman numeral I at the link above; a) you reside in, b) you used to reside in, and c) you have roots in Moore County. This gives you 500 words and a free picture per household! If you have siblings, children, cousins, etc., they are each entitled to 500 words and a picture, free! Example; if you have 6 children, they each have 500 words and a picture. You would have 500 words and a picture (modern) and a Pioneer article of 500 words and a picture. Altogether; 4,000 words and 8 pictures! Since the articles are alphabetical, you may determine the placement by titling the stories Hunt-Kahn or Kahn-Hunt. Your choice. Email any further questions to; MooreCoBook@Yahoo.com Thanks, Don and Becky Mills ----- Original Message ----- From: "A.J.Kahn" To: "Don & Becky Mills" Sent: Thursday, May 20, 2004 8:52 AM Subject: Re: Deadline for Moore Co., NC Heritage and other questions Hi, I have two questions : 1. 1. Deadline for Moore Co., NC Heritage and other questions
    2. Don & Becky Mills
    3. Hello! First, thanks for so many emails and questions. Our health doesn't allow us to answer each one individually. Sorry. Here is a synopsis: The public deadline for submission of stories, pictures, etc. for the new Moore Co., NC Heritage book is Sept. 30, 2004. We simply asked the early attendees to submit their stories and pictures early, so we could build a brochure. If you are within driving distance, the best way to have your questions answered is to come to a meeting. Our next one will be Thursday, May 20th in So. Pines. Dinner starts at 6:30 PM, our meeting begins at 7:30 PM at the Sagebrush Steakhouse on US Route One, Southern Pines. We will be bringing rough drafts of the brochure for everyone to proofread. Then we will be able to print and widely distribute these very informative fliers! They tell who, what, when, where, and even why! For now, we'd suggest you click on: http://home.earthlink.net/~srapa/index.htm Scroll down to where the feet are running, and immediately below, you'll find a wealth of information. The only difference in the Cleveland Book and Moore Co. Book is the definition of a Pioneer. In Moore County it's 1840. As most of our other County Heritage groups have done, you simply delegate the submission of stories to siblings, children, cousins, nieces, nephews, etc. If they have households (which) a) reside in Moore County b) used to reside in Moore County c) have roots in Moore County These households are EACH entitled to 500 free words and a free picture! We simply must have a living breathing household to sponsor (submit) each article. There may be a different researcher or writer (and you can also include an address for that person). Stories may be brought to our May 20 meeting of the Book committee or, you may mail them to: Moore Co. Heritage, PO Box 3151, Pinehurst, NC 28374-3151. Sorry, no email submissions. Make a floppy or CD of your story and picture and mail it to this address! Thanks to all for being so patient with us! We are really excited about the new Moore County Heritage - NC - 2005 ! Come join us as we "save our Moore County heritage!" There is a special email address for questions; MooreCoBook@Yahoo.com Thanks to all! Don and Becky Mills

    3. Hello. I am Victoria (Harris) Hill in Phoenix, AZ. My mother was Edith Howie from Aberdeen, NC. I am researching the Howie & Stubbs Families and would appreciate any help or suggestions anyone could give me in the search. I recently started going through old letters from her cedar chest and they have raised many questions that have piqued my interest. I have already learned a great many things I never knew before, for instance, did you know that dry cleaners used to be called 'Pressing Clubs'? Any how---her father was Harry Lee Howie, Sr and he was married to Ethel Mae Stubbs. They had a peach orchard out on Sandpit Road in Aberdeen. She had 3 brothers, Morrison, Harry, Jr & Charlie, and one sister, Ethel Gene. Thanks again for any help you can give a newbie to this quest. 3. Hello to all our Moore County friends! Thanks for your patience. With a broken back, we are somewhat limited at the moment, but will be up to full speed in a few weeks. A brochure has been designed, and a rough preliminary web site is up. As soon as those are finalized, we'll give you that Moore Co. Heritage Book website URL. For now, take a peek at the Cleveland Co., NC Vol. 2 website: http://home.earthlink.net/~srapa/index.htm please scroll down to the moving footprints, and just below those, you will see the general guidelines for submissions. The only major difference is the Pioneer date for Moore County is 1840 and not 1860! If you have a Moore Co. Pioneer ancestor, you are entitled to another 500 words and free photo (limit one per household). As most of our groups have done, you will be able to delegate the submission of stories to siblings, children, cousins, nieces, nephews, etc. If they have households (which) a) reside in Moore County b) used to reside in Moore County c) has roots in Moore County These households are EACH entitled to 500 free words and a free picture! We simply must have a living breathing household to sponsor (submit) each article. There may be a different researcher or writer (and you can also include an address for that person). Stories may be brought to a meeting of the Book committee (below) Or, you may mail them to; Moore Co. Heritage, PO Box 3151, Pinehurst, NC 28374-3151. A final note. If you are within driving distance of Southern Pines, we look forward to seeing you on Thursday, May 20, 6:30 (for dinner) at Sagebrush Steakhouse (Route 1), Southern Pines. Our Book Meeting will begin at 7:30 PM. We will have rough draft copies of the brochure at the meeting! The real deal will be printed shortly thereafter. Thanks for your interest! 3. Subject: New Moore Co., NC Heritage book I was excited to learn about the new book; The Heritage of Moore County, NC - 2005! We have just finished our book; Cleveland Co., NC Vol. 2, and were most excited to learn of your book project. In Cleveland County, we received stories, photos and book orders from all over the Country. It was amazing to see how many folk have roots in North Carolina! At first folk seemed reluctant to submit material, but then as the word spread, we had a land-slide of material. Our book is now being type-set and designed for Summer delivery. It has more than 700 stories on families, places, things and events. There are hundreds of heirloom photos accompanying the articles, and it will truly be a collector's edition! We were very pleased with Walsworth Publishing Co. They are the ones doing most of the remaining North Carolina County heritage series. We especially like the fact that they allow us to have a beautiful color cover (other than black)! Don't miss this golden opportunity of being a part of Moore County History and Heritage! The email address for info. is: MooreCoBook@Yahoo.com Proceeds from the sale of our Cleveland Co. Heritage book are going to the Broad River Genealogical society and other preservation projects in Cleveland county. We understand that profits from the Moore County book will also go to Local Genealogical and Historical Preservation. 2. David, This is really reaching, but I, too, am stuck on the name, McPheeters, McFatter, McFetters, etc. In 1809, in Cumberland County, John Calvin Campbell of Moore County married Jane McPheeters. She may have been Jeanette, Janet, Jane or Mary Jane. According to the census of 1850, Jane Campbell was 60 years old, meaning that she was born about 1790. Since the column for place of birth was not checked, I assume that she was born in North Carolina. In 1809, Moore was adjacent to Cumberland, but would have been quite a distance from Bladen. In your search, have you run across a Jane McFatter? Thanks, Cornelia Holmes > Hi, my name is David McFather, and I am trying to find my ancestors. 3. Hey Vicky: We found your post on the NCROWAN-L. Thanks for the update. I'm sure we have some kinfolk in Cleveland County, so we'll be sure and order our book before April 30. Didn't you say (in an earlier post) that proceeds from the book will be going to the Broad River Genealogical Society? We have a new heritage book project here in Moore County. Our publisher is Walsworth. Word has it that you are also using Walsworth. Is that correct? They seem very credible and reliable. Thanks loads! R. Murdock ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We noted a message from Becky about the Moore County, NC book. Sounds like she is very interested, but has some questions. Perhaps you can tell her what made the Cleveland Co., Vol. 2 such a success! Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0VB.2ACI/7401 Message Board Post: LAST CHANCE TO SAVE MONEY ON HERITAGE BOOKS The Cleveland County Heritage Book Committee has announced a final call for book orders at pre-publication prices. This is your last week to have an opportunity to save $10.00. Until April 30, 2004, the committee will accept orders at $52.50 including tax. After April 30, 2004, the cost of the book will increase to $62.50 including tax. Order now to save $10.00. If you want your book mailed directly to your home, rather than picking it up from a designated place, you should include an additional $7.00 for postage and handling. It has been learned that many county residents plan to purchase their Heritage book when it comes out. However, the book committee wishes to encourage all residents to order the book in advance. Not only will this save you money, it will insure that everyone that wants a book will get one. (Often the books sell-out immediately after publication!) The Cleveland County Heritage Book, Volume II will be a storehouse of family heirloom pictures and nostalgic reading for everybody with interest in our county. Order forms are still available at Broad River Genealogical Archives, Cleveland County Memorial Library, Cleveland County Register of Deeds and other various businesses. Or visit the Book Committee's website: http://home.earthlink.net/~srapa/index.htm If you have questions, call Nancy Hughes at 704-481-0228 or Ned Cash at 704-484-9396. If you wish to order your book, mail your check or money order to County Heritage Book at PO Box 263; Shelby, NC 28151-0263. ============================== Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial.
