http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cranford/cathy1.html I would beg all of you to read the dark bold print on this page found at the link above. I can't patrol the net to keep up with who is using these cds and I once had this same information on FTM cds with my name attached on my site but took it off once I thought that it was clear what the cds contained and that most would not use, but evidently I need to keep this note up on the site for the remainder of my life in order to keep things on the up and up. I believe in sharing but not taking, and I believe in keeping work as close to FACT as possible, I also believe that credit should be given to each party who gives it, and I am big on copyright issues. Dates, etc can not be copy-righted, we all know this, only presentation of such. But the written word is copyrighted and one should take heed of such no matter what format they find those words in. My entire working tree (including my notes) has been used and others as well as my ex husband's (including other's notes which are not my own). This is totally uncalled for. Please do your own work or ask for permission to use others work and do not rely on FTM CDS then open up a website and pass on the data as your own work without permission from the person who did that work, correct or incorrect work! Simply asking for permission 9 times out of 10, usually gets an "sure, use what you want" from me. Refusing to ask and letting me find it, just plain ticks off this 5'2 woman with a huge temper that lays just below the surface of my kind exterior. I will give you the shirt off my back, but you had better not take it from me without my giving it to you. Believe me, I know my work when I see it, and there are intentional errors in most of my work for that fact alone as my work is meant for myself only and was done in this manner in case it were to be stolen once again. My real tree resides on a computer without internet. This tree that is passed around that I am speaking of is and was stolen from my machine, and I have since learned to not use the "Family Finder" feature that matches names on genealogy programs as well as taking the internet settings out of the INI folder for the genealogy programs so data can not be swiped nor inadvertently submitted without my knowledge. To repeat what I have said a few years back, "Buy those cds at your own risk, you will be wasting your money." They are wrong, and you can't use my notes without copyright issues, and I will ask for all proof of the work that you have done in order to state that the work is your own. My site is full of helpful data there to be used and all I have ever asked is for my name to be used for where you located said data from. All I will ever ask for. I buy the records and that is not much to ask for in return. But my entire tree full of my own handwritten notes, is another story. Please ask for permission. Thousands people is a lot to 'take' from a person, without permission if you ask me. Doing that only makes me want to stop being kind and sharing the data that I have yet to add to the site in order to help all the folks who are researching their families as it hurts and angers me to no end to watch some take and claim other's work without regard of the time, effort, money, concern about correctness of the work, the fact that some may be harmed by the data being online and will in fact be harmed by said data resting on said site. Bad enough that it was in cd form but and it had to be bought, but to take the data from the cd and place it online only compounds those issues said above. Enough said.
