    3. Subject: Fw: Virus---- Worm--- Worm By the way, i was advised once that the best way to prevent a virus from sending out email from your computer-- is to make the first entry in your address book to: **!00001 with no address. that stops the computer from sending additional mail since it can't get pass the first one. Do a search for files, and if you have a file named kernel32.exe --you are infected. This infection can happen even if you do not open the attachment. Until this clears up I won't be reading any mail that comes with an attachment. It will be deleted by deleting groups of mail since I cannot even click on it, to delete it without being infected. diane ----- Original Message ----- From: John S. I believe that I stopped the worm before it sent out to the people in my address book. BUT If you receive an email from me, please ignore it. The following is the instructions for removing it with Norton Antivirus. Norton did not detect this before it infected my computer. Apparently just opening the email executed the .scr file imbedded in the email.

    3. She is right folks, I had have it sent to me as well today. Spent the better half of the day and night scanning my hard drives to make sure I came up clean. Update your virus protection folks before scanning for bugs/worms. And I second, that you do not have to open the attachment. Simply trying to delete the message requires you to send to quarantine a second time. I was unable to grab the email address of the sender who is infected due to this happening, and so I am hoping the person will realize soon they are infected. I am sure this person is not the only one infected and so I am begging you all to keep your virus protection current by going to the antivirus program's website weekly and downloading the newest virus definitions, which is the only way you will have a chance at staying clean, nothing is more important, folks, if you value anything on your computer. Being on a mailing list does not infect you, it is the people who either open, or do not keep their programs current, or scan before opening, or as in this case, simply get a message that does not need to be opened due to the script embedding itself in the actual email message that is sent out. Being in just one person's address book or emailing just one person (ever) puts you at risk. The only way to totally avoid bugs and worms is to never open your email program, but beware, some websites can infect you just the same. Good luck, here is hoping that you will update, scan your machine, "all files" not just program files and come up clean. 3. Should you remove your Kernel32.exe or dll file, your will remove what runs your operating system. My advise is to leave Kernel32. files completely alone.
