    1. [NCMONT] Starbuck or Stanback in Montgomery Co.
    2. I hope someone who is familiar with Montgomery Co. can help me sort something out. My ancestor John Bowles, son of Benjamin Bowles of Montgomery Co., is buried in Davie Co. NC with his wife. The grave stone (which is pretty crude) indicates that John's wife was Janie Starbuck, born 1788 and died 1851. John and his wife moved from Montgomery Co to Davie Co. sometime in the late 1840s after the death of Benjamin Bowles, so their marriage most likely occurred in Montgomery Co., probably around 1810. I can find no references in Montgomery Co. records of a Starbuck surname. I have found Starbuck to be prevalent in the Guilford Co. area close to the Quaker settlement. But, I have no records that suggest that John Bowles ever spent time in Guilford Co. In looking at Montgomery Co. records, I do see the surname Stanback. So, I am wondering if possibly the Starbuck is really Stanback. Two questsions: 1) does anyone know of a Starbuck line in the Montgomery Co. area prior to 1800? and 2) are there any Stanback researchers on the list who could check their data to see if they have a Jane or possibly Anne b. abt 1788. I would appreciate any help you can give on this. Brenda Pflaum Hudson, OH
