    1. [NCMONT] Bugs and Help

    3. Hi folks, I know we are not supposed to discuss these things on the list, but what the heck, slap my hand. I have had lots of bugs (viruses and worms) come in this week, my virus scanner picks them up and grabs them but this one that I am about to tell you about, we can do a bit more to help ourselves stay clean. I am sure many of you have had Snowhite come in to your machine from a sender whose address is a Hahaha. Well there is another one out there, only this is not Snowhite but another attachment, the one that came into my machine was titled MKCOMPAT.EXE and it is attached to the bug by the name of W32.Magistr.24876@mm and this is a serious bug which is spreading fast and does lots of damage to your machine, after spreading by sending itself out from your machine, to others, it then starts to wipe your system out and goes on for nearly 3 months till it deletes itself off your hard drive. This does not mean that now your machine is fine, but that you have so much mess on your hands that a full system recovery will be about the only way out of it all. BUT I think I have the answer. I long ago blocked the sender of Hahaha that was sending out the Snowwhite one and I have decided to try this one as well. Let me tell you step by step so that you can do it too and possibly save yourself some trouble, but please keep your machine current on virus protection by going to your virus programs website and downloading new protection each night. If you need help with this, I am here to help just email me off the list at pastseeker@nc.rr.com Ok, now if you are running Internet Explorer, try this (if someone is using Netscape, maybe they will step in and tell you blow by blow how to do it from Netscape, I only use Internet Explorer and Outlook Express as my mail client: Go to your mail program and find at the top of the mail program's screen, the word "Tools" click on that, it will give you a drop down menu, there you will see the word "Message Rules" and click on that. Then you will have another window come up, and it will have a place to click "Mail" and once you click that word, you will have the window come up that you need in order to keep this sender from sending to you. Click on the word "Mail" then under the "Mail Rules" tab, you will see the word "New" to the right of this tiny screen. Click on "New" and then you should have a spot in highlighted text, that says "Where the from Line contains People" and (make sure you put a check mark in the box) click that, it will give you a spot that is highlighted that says "Contains People" click that and it will give you a spot to type in the senders address and here you will type this exactly: boomers@chartertn.net then click the number 2 box where it says "delete from server" (make sure to put in a check mark) then make sure to click "OK" at the bottom of this screen in order to make this rule apply to all incoming messages. Once you have done that, it will no longer allow this senders mail to come to you, it will go to the server then be deleted. It works, believe me. I have not had hahahah send me a snowhite in months. And unless these evil people that make up these things, change the email addresses, we will stay safe from these two bugs. Good luck and I will try to help as much as I can to walk you thru this if you write me off the list. this one bug that I typed out up above is really doing some damage to a lot of my friends and is making its circles on quite a few of my mailing lists. It is not passed on by Rootsweb but by folks opening the attachments, so please scan all attachments even if they come from me, who knows, maybe I could be infected and not know it, see what I mean? Very important to scan for a bug before opening and more importantly, keep the protection program current. I go to Norton's once a day and download the newest virus definitions but still I don't feel safe.
