Dear Montgomery Researchers,
>
Boy oh boy do I need help. I have followed what I thought was my father in laws line back to Elisha Moore and Sarah Hulin. Somewhere over the last few years, he told me that his great great grandfather was Elisha Moore. My father in law has a deceased brother whose middle name was Hulin, so I figured he was correct. Of course, since these are not my lines but my husband's, I haven't done the really careful checking I have done on my lines. Now, my father in law has come up with papers he hand wrote in the 1950s when interviewing his father, John Carl Simmons. His father said that his mother, Sara Elizabeth Moore was the daughter of Jeremiah Moore, not Elisha Moore. He also has written on this paper Jeremiah Moore, Jan. 31, 1837 - March 24, 1920 and D. L. Moore March 1860 December 16, 1889. I had a few minutes to look at a Montgomery County 1870 census. Jeremiah did have a daughter Sa! rah.&n! > bsp; I couldn't make out his wife's name. The marriage records say he married Kitty Freeman. It also has a Kitty Thomas that married a Freeman before this marriage. Does anyone trace these lines? When I looked under Elisha Moore in the same census, I couldn't read any entry under his name. Somewhere, in a census I had written down Sarah as one of his daughters also. My father in law also has written down J. C. Vuncannon with his date of birth and death, and Sarah a. Vuncannon with the Moores and Simmons. I am now really confused. Is anyone else researching Jeremiah Moore? He is not in the first Montgomery County book. I did find where he was in the Montgomery Volunteers, and the story of him my father in law wrote in the 50s matches.
>
Could I ask a genealogy favor? Could someone look up the marriage record of John Henry Simmons and Sara Elizabeth Moore for me? It would have been in the 1880s I think. I am hoping that will give me names of parents. If not, I am going to write for Sara Elizabeth Moore Simmons death certificate--she died January 16, 1931. He also has written that Jerry Moore died at Hopkin home in Montgomery County. Does anyone know what or who that was? If anyone can help me, please do. I can do you a return lookup in Currituck County. I am SOO confused and annoyed with myself for not doing a better job on this side.
>

>
Thanks in advance for any help
>
A totally confused,
>
Mary Simmons
>
mbsimms@hotmail.com

>From: NCMONTGO-D-request@rootsweb.com Reply-To: NCMONTGO-L@rootsweb.com To: >NCMONTGO-D@rootsweb.com Subject: NCMONTGO-D Digest V01 #145 Date: Fri, 31 >Aug 2001 04:00:59 -0600 > ><< message2.txt >> << message4.txt >> _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
I can help some but have not started hard research on the MOORE families yet, on the 1880 census, it states that Elisha MOORE was 44 years old, a farmer his wife was Sarah age 51 Nancy I. a 19 year old daughter Valentine, a 11 year old son Canliss E., a 13 year old daughter Deborah A., a 10 year old daughter Lula A., a 8 year old daughter These folks are living near the families of Thomas HALTOM, James HALTOM, Allen HULIN, Roe HULIN and Valentine MOORE, Spencer MOORE (Who has a Nancy A. Cranford living there as a sister in law.) Does anyone have a idea who Nancy Cranford is the daughter of? I have a Nancy A. Cranford, who was the daughter of Ambrose CRANFORD and Caroline HURLEY CRANFORD, but no mention of a sister who was named Mary A. which this census states this Nancy is the sister of. The dates do not figure for this Nancy to be the daughter of Ambrose CRANFORD, so I have pretty much ruled that out, the above Nancy A. in the 1880 census in the family of Spencer MOORE would have been born abt. 1846, give or take a year. So I have another Nancy in my database, the daughter of Elias CRANFORD and Lucy EARNHEARDT who did have a sister named Mary, but in the database it states that that Mary's middle name began with a S, the above 1880 census that I speak of shows a Mary A. Census of which I am speaking is: Spencer MOORE age 53, a farmer Mary A., his wife aged 40 Wm. S. age 13, his son CRANFORD, Nancy A., sister-in-law, aged 24. Can anyone help me too? Thanks! I hope this helps some.
