Cathy, after taking a look at this record, I suspect this was Elizabeth "Gellis", not Cellis; if you will note, the writer made the "C" of Calvin Crouches as a normal "C" with no flourish to start; the mystery letter is also the 1st initial of Bruton's signature. I'm pretty sure that Gillis was a common Montgomery Co, NC name. Can't say that I've heard "Cellis" before...anyone else have an opinion?
