I can't find a message with the HULIN name in the subject line so somehow I missed it. If this HULIN was once HULINGS as in Hulings of New Sweden, I have a couple hundred pages on the descendants of Marcus Hulings, mainly in Pa, NJ, Va, and just starting to work on Georgia. One of the great-grandsons about 1800 started using the Hulin spelling. I don't show any living in NC but it could be. Mary, Have you checked all the following articles in Vol I MCH? 470,472, 546, (669-684 are the Moore ones--I'm sure you've checked those) Linda Smith "Isn't genealogy fun? The answer to one problem leads to two more!"
Thank you, Cynthia. It may well be a misreading of the census, I will check my local library on this Thursday. In looking over dob's for these ladies and what I have entered into my database, I see that I have the following Mary A. So am hoping that someone might have more data on the following family as to whether there was a Nancy A. as well. I am pretty sure that the Ambrose CRANFORD I mentioned earlier does not have a dau named Mary, but have found the following that might fit. I show a daughter, Mary A. of Leonard Cranford and Lucy NEWSOME CRANFORD which has the dob of 1841. The Mary A. of the census 1880 Montgomery Co., NC is listed as being aged 40, placing her dob at or about 1840. Would anyone know if Leonard and Lucy also had a dau named Nancy A? But there is a slight possibility that this Nancy A. and Mary A. listed in the household of Spencer MOORE might be related to Joel Griffin CRANFORD who is stated to have married Claudia Elizabeth MOORE, she was the daughter of Elisha MOORE and Sarah HULIN MOORE. But I do not have any further info on these folks at the moment. If this Claudia Elizabeth is possibly the Canliss E. MOORE that is listed in the 1880 census in the household of Spencer MOORE that the two CRANFORD ladies show up in, that might be a connection. But again, I have no further data. Would anyone have a clue? Thanks! Dear Montgomery Researchers,</P> > <P>Boy oh boy do I need help. I have followed what I thought was my father in laws line back to Elisha Moore and Sarah Hulin. Somewhere over the last few years, he told me that his great great grandfather was Elisha Moore. My father in law has a deceased brother whose middle name was Hulin, so I figured he was correct. Of course, since these are not my lines but my husband's, I haven't done the really careful checking I have done on my lines. Now, my father in law has come up with papers he hand wrote in the 1950s when interviewing his father, John Carl Simmons. His father said that his mother, Sara Elizabeth Moore was the daughter of Jeremiah Moore, not Elisha Moore. He also has written on this paper Jeremiah Moore, Jan. 31, 1837 - March 24, 1920 and D. L. Moore March 1860 December 16, 1889. I had a few minutes to look at a Montgomery County 1870 census. Jeremiah did have a daughter Sa! rah.&n! > bsp; I couldn't make out his wife's name. The marriage records say he married Kitty Freeman. It also has a Kitty Thomas that married a Freeman before this marriage. Does anyone trace these lines? When I looked under Elisha Moore in the same census, I couldn't read any entry under his name. Somewhere, in a census I had written down Sarah as one of his daughters also. My father in law also has written down J. C. Vuncannon with his date of birth and death, and Sarah a. Vuncannon with the Moores and Simmons. I am now really confused. Is anyone else researching Jeremiah Moore? He is not in the first Montgomery County book. I did find where he was in the Montgomery Volunteers, and the story of him my father in law wrote in the 50s matches. </P> > <P>Could I ask a genealogy favor? Could someone look up the marriage record of John Henry Simmons and Sara Elizabeth Moore for me? It would have been in the 1880s I think. I am hoping that will give me names of parents. If not, I am going to write for Sara Elizabeth Moore Simmons death certificate--she died January 16, 1931. He also has written that Jerry Moore died at Hopkin home in Montgomery County. Does anyone know what or who that was? If anyone can help me, please do. I can do you a return lookup in Currituck County. I am SOO confused and annoyed with myself for not doing a better job on this side.</P> > <P> </P> > <P>Thanks in advance for any help</P> > <P>A totally confused,</P> > <P>Mary Simmons</P> > <P>mbsimms@hotmail.com<BR><BR></P></DIV> >From: NCMONTGO-D-request@rootsweb.com Reply-To: NCMONTGO-L@rootsweb.com To: >NCMONTGO-D@rootsweb.com Subject: NCMONTGO-D Digest V01 #145 Date: Fri, 31 >Aug 2001 04:00:59 -0600 > ><< message2.txt >> << message4.txt >> _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Speaking of Ballards (in the NCMontgomery list), others here may like to know of these recent connections in Spencer Ballard's line. Still no firm way to connect my own James B. Ballard to Spencer Ballard at this time. Solomon Ballard, who lived near Spencer in 1850, is one contender to be related to these other two. Corrections/additions appreciated. It has also come to my attention that there may be a connection between both Spencer Ballard and James B. Ballard to the Scarboroughs, Garners and Popes in Duplin/Green Co., NC. I can think of 2 possibilities for the discrepancy in your Mary A./Mary S. First, handwriting is difficult to decipher and the documents we have to work with do not always convey the subtleties that we need to determine one letter from another especially when we have only one letter to work with. Second, the Cranfords, Lillys, Ballards etc. seem to enjoy giving their children multiple names so that we have H.A.C. Ballard as an example. Then they use the middle name (H. Ann C.) as the name they use. Your Mary could be Mary A.S. Cranford or Mary S.A. Cranford or someone had trouble reading the "A" or "S" in the records. Another researcher and I just finished debating whether a child was a James L.D. or James L. G. Ballard. A Bible record finally confirmed that he was James Lawerence Ganalia Ballard and that he was the same person (he has same parents) despite the continuing problem of his exact birthdate. So you might want to be open to that possibility, especially if the ages for the two Marys come out about the same age. Cynthia McDaniel In a message dated 9/4/2001 12:11:06 PM Eastern Daylight Time, pastseeker@nc.rr.com writes: << So I have another Nancy in my database, the daughter of Elias CRANFORD and Lucy EARNHEARDT who did have a sister named Mary, but in the database it states that that Mary's middle name began with a S, the above 1880 census that I speak of shows a Mary A. Census of which I am speaking is: Spencer MOORE age 53, a farmer Mary A., his wife aged 40 Wm. S. age 13, his son CRANFORD, Nancy A., sister-in-law, aged 24. Can anyone help me too? >>
I can help some but have not started hard research on the MOORE families yet, on the 1880 census, it states that Elisha MOORE was 44 years old, a farmer his wife was Sarah age 51 Nancy I. a 19 year old daughter Valentine, a 11 year old son Canliss E., a 13 year old daughter Deborah A., a 10 year old daughter Lula A., a 8 year old daughter These folks are living near the families of Thomas HALTOM, James HALTOM, Allen HULIN, Roe HULIN and Valentine MOORE, Spencer MOORE (Who has a Nancy A. Cranford living there as a sister in law.) Does anyone have a idea who Nancy Cranford is the daughter of? I have a Nancy A. Cranford, who was the daughter of Ambrose CRANFORD and Caroline HURLEY CRANFORD, but no mention of a sister who was named Mary A. which this census states this Nancy is the sister of. The dates do not figure for this Nancy to be the daughter of Ambrose CRANFORD, so I have pretty much ruled that out, the above Nancy A. in the 1880 census in the family of Spencer MOORE would have been born abt. 1846, give or take a year. So I have another Nancy in my database, the daughter of Elias CRANFORD and Lucy EARNHEARDT who did have a sister named Mary, but in the database it states that that Mary's middle name began with a S, the above 1880 census that I speak of shows a Mary A. Census of which I am speaking is: Spencer MOORE age 53, a farmer Mary A., his wife aged 40 Wm. S. age 13, his son CRANFORD, Nancy A., sister-in-law, aged 24. Can anyone help me too? Thanks! Hi folks, Just a little note of appreciation. The site that I started some time ago has now reached its 1000th page. When I started this, I had no idea that it would grow as it has, many of you have contributed to its success and for that I am grateful. To those who have shared their records with me, words can not express my sincere wonderment at your kindness. And so in return for that kindness, I am offering to send out one record that has been posted to the site, to each email address/snail mail address that contacts me by Monday evening. Free of charge of course. This is my way of saying thank-you. Being a single, disabled parent, I have to have Monday as the cut off date and only accept one record per person due to finances. I know that you all will understand. Please send requests off the list as to keep your private data, private, remember the list replies back to the list, so you will need to make a new email message addressed to pastseeker@nc.rr.com please let me know the page that the image is on, example being below: "Hi Cathy, I would like the following Record: Pleasant HURLEY To Minnie CALICOTT 1891 Marriage Record Image http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cranford/mont0425.html I would like it sent to me via email at this address: blah blah Or I would like it sent to me at this snail mail address: blah blah blah. Thanks, Your name. This tells me quickly what you are looking for and where to find it on my hard drive and will help me to help you. I hope this helps those who live far from Montgomery County and who are like me, not rich and have a hard time ordering records. Please don't take advantage of me and get all your kin to email me so as to get more then the one record as I will only respond to those who are presently subscribed to the list. Good luck and again, thank you to everyone on the Montgomery County, NC List. It has grown since I have taken it over and really folks, I am laid back so don't hesitate to post often to the list. Replies back to the list are encouraged by me as they help me and the rest of the list to learn. My research has taken a back seat to the website but there are only so many records in the county and as soon as I slow down on what I have in my possession, I will be bombarding the list for cries of help with my lines. Take care everyone and have a great weekend. Hi folks, I know we are not supposed to discuss these things on the list, but what the heck, slap my hand. I have had lots of bugs (viruses and worms) come in this week, my virus scanner picks them up and grabs them but this one that I am about to tell you about, we can do a bit more to help ourselves stay clean. I am sure many of you have had Snowhite come in to your machine from a sender whose address is a Hahaha. Well there is another one out there, only this is not Snowhite but another attachment, the one that came into my machine was titled MKCOMPAT.EXE and it is attached to the bug by the name of W32.Magistr.24876@mm and this is a serious bug which is spreading fast and does lots of damage to your machine, after spreading by sending itself out from your machine, to others, it then starts to wipe your system out and goes on for nearly 3 months till it deletes itself off your hard drive. This does not mean that now your machine is fine, but that you have so much mess on your hands that a full system recovery will be about the only way out of it all. BUT I think I have the answer. I long ago blocked the sender of Hahaha that was sending out the Snowwhite one and I have decided to try this one as well. Let me tell you step by step so that you can do it too and possibly save yourself some trouble, but please keep your machine current on virus protection by going to your virus programs website and downloading new protection each night. If you need help with this, I am here to help just email me off the list at pastseeker@nc.rr.com Ok, now if you are running Internet Explorer, try this (if someone is using Netscape, maybe they will step in and tell you blow by blow how to do it from Netscape, I only use Internet Explorer and Outlook Express as my mail client: Go to your mail program and find at the top of the mail program's screen, the word "Tools" click on that, it will give you a drop down menu, there you will see the word "Message Rules" and click on that. Then you will have another window come up, and it will have a place to click "Mail" and once you click that word, you will have the window come up that you need in order to keep this sender from sending to you. Click on the word "Mail" then under the "Mail Rules" tab, you will see the word "New" to the right of this tiny screen. Click on "New" and then you should have a spot in highlighted text, that says "Where the from Line contains People" and (make sure you put a check mark in the box) click that, it will give you a spot that is highlighted that says "Contains People" click that and it will give you a spot to type in the senders address and here you will type this exactly: boomers@chartertn.net then click the number 2 box where it says "delete from server" (make sure to put in a check mark) then make sure to click "OK" at the bottom of this screen in order to make this rule apply to all incoming messages. Once you have done that, it will no longer allow this senders mail to come to you, it will go to the server then be deleted. It works, believe me. I have not had hahahah send me a snowhite in months. And unless these evil people that make up these things, change the email addresses, we will stay safe from these two bugs. Good luck and I will try to help as much as I can to walk you thru this if you write me off the list. this one bug that I typed out up above is really doing some damage to a lot of my friends and is making its circles on quite a few of my mailing lists. It is not passed on by Rootsweb but by folks opening the attachments, so please scan all attachments even if they come from me, who knows, maybe I could be infected and not know it, see what I mean? Very important to scan for a bug before opening and more importantly, keep the protection program current. I go to Norton's once a day and download the newest virus definitions but still I don't feel safe.
