Hello Researchers! My county library can get microfilm of Montogomery County Marriage Records on loan. The problem is that there are ten of them. No index on the microfilm is listed. So I won't know which roll and what page to look for my Sara Moore marriage to John Henry Simmons. My guess is they were married between 1879-1881. Does anyone know if an index to these rolls exist? Thanks so much for your help. Mary B. Probably not. Date: Sun, 4 Nov 2001 13:45:28 -0600 Hey Cousins, It is said there is nothing new under the sun, but I saw something yesterday, though it may not be new, it is certainly new to me. I'll try to describe it for you. While walking through an old cemetery here in Harvey County, KS, I ran across five headstones, broken from their bases. The people who are keeping the cemetery, in very good condition I might add, have built wooden forms the thickness of the various broken stones, laid the stones flat at the head of the grave with the wooden forms around them (with about a 6 inch space all around the stones) and poured concrete into the forms flush with the face of the stones. The stones appear to have been cleaned with mild detergent and a brush. Once dried, it appears that they have poured a coating of either automotive clear coat, or the hard acrylic clear coating found in hobby shops. The end result is a stone too heavy to steal, a coating to protect the face of the stone and the preservation of information for years to come. This may not be new, but it is novel and certainly crucial to genealogy researchers in the years to come. Just thought I would share this with the list, in hopes that it will generate some protection across the nation for the many broken or damaged stones. I might add, that the ones that were in two or three or more pieces, were put together and once coated, all you see are the break lines but they can't be moved. Dean Taylor

Hi list, Here is another family line and we thank Cynthia McDaniel for this one as well. Thank you, Cynthia! The Descendants of Spencer BALLARD Page Which can be seen at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cranford/mont0503.html This is wonderful, folks! The site is growing in leaps and bounds and with the pages set up in this manner, when we do a roll call, (which we should start one back up, by the way) those who have sent their lines in can just pass on the link instead of typing it all up again for the Roll Call's. Plus folks will find making connections is much easier this way as the search engines will pick these up as well. Thank you everyone, for being such a wonderful list that pulls together to make it a great list and one to be proud to be a part of. The honor goes to each and every one of you. Folks, It does appear that Rootsweb is having some troubles with the sites as well as threaded searches on mailing lists. Some wrote saying that they were able to get in and you can get in, with ease at times, not so easy at other times. I now know it is not an server issue on my end and for that I am grateful, have talked to Rootsweb and will hear more on that, soon. Many thanks to all who went out of their way checking the links for me as well as the other links that I sent on to be checked afterwards. Also Mary has the digest problem squared away and I would like to thank everyone who wrote her to help her as well. This is a great list, folks, so many willing to take the time to help and that is what makes the list work so well. Thank you again, everyone! Well, now it is my turn to ask for help. Can someone check a few links that they may have saved on their hard drives that go to Rootsweb? I have tried several times for 2 days running now, to see my site, and several Virginia sites that are housed on rootsweb but are run by USGenWeb and I can't pull any of the up. I am able to go to sites that are not Rootsweb. And I can pull up the sites in question, but only after I keep hitting the refresh buttons to reload the pages, finally I make it though. I need someone to write me off the list and let me know if they too are having troubles and then I will write them to see if they are aware of it and if so if they have a clue why it is happening and for how long. I can't add a page to the site without being able to check it afterwards. So I am spinning my wheels folks. I am sorry, I will try to get more records up ASAP. In a message dated 10/23/2001 3:07:19 PM Eastern Daylight Time, pastseeker@nc.rr.com writes: << Mary if it does not get straightened out, please contact me again, and maybe we can put you on the L list to clear it up and then the messages will come in one at a time? If I remember correctly, they come in, in bundled up message, then you double click that to open up the message, and all the messages should then come up, which you double click to open. But then again, I am not sure to be honest. Can someone help Mary and me? Thank you. Cathy pastseeker@nc.rr.com >> I'm not on a rootsweb digest list but what happens on others is that the digest collects single messages into one long message and sends it out on a time basis (once a day) or on a quantity basis (after 15 messages are collected). You don't need to click on anything else after you click on the digest message. Sometimes, if the digest is a LOOOOONG one, part of the message will be displayed and the rest will be an attachment which will need to be opened. This is particularly the case with AOL. If Mary is getting only the titles, I'd guess that there is some problem with the way rootsweb is accumulating the messages before sending them to her. Sometimes digest messages come with a lot of advertisements and junk stuff. Be sure to go down to the middle of the message before deciding that it is only header stuff. Mary, NCMontgo-L is not that busy right now and even when it is, the messages aren't long. I'd consider subscribing to the list. I'm sending my message directly to Mary on the chance that she isn't getting the actual messages. Cynthia McDaniel
