Thanks - the letter came from National Personnel Records Center/Military Personnel Records and was specifically addressing "MEDALS" - wonder if they even searched for the "Service Record?" The form I sent to them requested his name, Social Security Number, Date of Birth and Place, Branch of Service, Dates of Service and Service Number. I requested information on medals, leaves of absense, injuries, place of service and noted that I was next of kin of a deceased veteran and his date of death/where died. Perhaps they forwarded the request to one person about the medals and that person, not being able to fulfill the request returned it to me and not for further action. Goood idea. Pat
