What year was the discharge? If it was WWII and the person was from Mecklenburg County. I do know that after WWII most returning men from Mecklenburg County had their discharges copied by Mecklenburg County. I still have the wallet size that they gave me for doing this. I do not know where these files are now, but do know that a large number of the veterans had theirs copied and put on file. My files were burned in 73 in St Louis, took me more than 18 months to obtain my service medals, they had to go back and rebuild my files using other files in the system. Just had these service medals and other stuff such as buttons insignia, patches, stripes, overseas bars all from the uniform I was discharged in mounted. Made a nice display for my ggrand kids.
