    3. Constance, I don't know if this is your REv. C.C. Johnston but in J. B. Alexander's History of Mecklenburg Co. NC, 1740-1900, on page on page 19: Talking about a school for women..."A suitable house was erected on the square now occupied by Mr. J. H. Carson, and the school comenced in 1836. For some three years the school was well attended, and was regareded as very properous. After Mrs. Hutchinson ceased to teach, Miss Sarah Davisdon continued to teach music for many years. In May, 1846 the Rev. Cyrus Johnston was called to the pastorate of the Presbyterian Church and also took charge of the female school, with Miss Sarah Davidson. This school was run with more or less regularity till Mr. Johnson was removed by death." I would assume that the Presbyterian Church would have been what is now First Presby. downtown, but that might not be the case. On page 253, there is also the following reference, talking about Rev. John Mck. Wilson and the serving of the Rocky River and Philadelphia Presbys...while there he started a classical school..."among those who entered the ministry from that school may be named Dr. Cyrus Johnston, at one time pastor of Providence and Sharon, and who died in Charlotte, the pastor of the First Church"... in one other place in the book, it stated that he died in 1853 in Charlotte while serving as pastor of "the" church and head of the Female Academy. Hope this will help you...and it may not be your C. C.
