    3. Constance, I just found a reference to this same Rev. Cyrus Johnston in the Providence Presby History book by Louise Barber Matthews. p. 116: "Cyrus Johnston was born about 1797 in the Poplar Tent section of Cabarrus Co., NC, the eldest son of fourteen children of John and Mary Crawford Johston. He prepared for college under Dr. Makamie Wilson of Rocky River and then attended Hampden Syndy College, where he was garduated first in his class in the year 1821... He was licensed in 1823 and ordained by the Presbytery of Concord in 1824. He supplied churches in York Co., SC and also taught at a large academy there. On Dec 25, 1823, he married a cousin, Mary Cook of Cabarrus Co. by whom he had nine children. Several of these children later died. .....Mr. Johnston became pastor of Providence Church in May, 1840. He left Providence at the close of the year 1845. In 1846, Mr. Johnston removed to Charlotte to become pastor of the Charlotte Church (later known as the First Presbyterian). Dr. Johnston was suddenly stricken by apoplexy on Jan 25, 1855 and died. He was fifty eight years of age at the time and had served as minister for thirty-two years. He was buried in the cemetery behind the First Presby. Church in Charlotte. His wife died June 9, 1858 at the age of fifty-five. I checked the old Settler's cem. records (which are on the following web page: http://www.charlotte.com/observer/living/docs/057520.htm ) I believe some of his children are also buried there with he and his wife. This is all I could find. Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, December 07, 1999 8:01 AM Subject: [NCMECKLE] Rev. C.C.
