Another way to cut costs and still make thorough use the census is to purchase the microfilm reels from the National Archives and use the microfilm at your leisure on the library's microfilm readers. When you have finished, donate the film to the library and have a tax write-off. This works if you can use it as part of the expenses of writing a book.
