Does anyone have a reference to the Providence meeting house and camping ground of the M.E. (Methodist Episcopal) Church, South, in Mecklenburg Co.? The LaClede Co., MO obituary (1855) for John Radford (possibly John Redford), my ggggrandfather, said that they stood "as monuments evidencing his gratitude and benevolence." I'm trying to substantiate his residence in Mecklenburg during the late 1700s and early 1800s - the obituary said he was born in VA in 1768, moved to NC three years later, then to TN in 1805. I can find Redfords, but no Radfords. About 20 years ago my grandfather related a story from his grandfather that the family changed their name from Redford to Radford when they arrived in TN.... but I have no proof.
