I'm trying to figure out the McCree family from NC. I 'think' - haven't found the link yet, but nothing else makes sense - I'm related to a Winslow McCree b 1812 NC who moved to Dallas Co., AL. My great-grandfather was Alfred E. McCree, born in Dallas Co., AL in 1864 but is no longer in that county by the next census. The only McCree family in that county for both the 1860 and 1870 census is the family of Winslow McCree (two of his grown sons are also listed in the 1870 census there, but other children are unaccounted for...probably my line). Winslow was married to Margaret "Peggy" Ramsey Johnston of NC, daughter of William Johnston and Elizabeth Hipp. William and Elizabeth married in 1808 in Mecklenburg Co. I don't know if any other Johnstons made the trip west to AL with Winslow and Margaret...but I do my that my Alfred McCree's mother supposedly was a Louisa Johnston or Johnson. I know there were other McCree's in Mecklenburg Co. at the time, but I haven't been able to tie Winslow into their lines yet, either. Any advice/suggestions on the McCree family appreciated.
