Follow-up data for McWhorter family lines: A message from Joy Alexander of PA, relates there is a "tradition" that George McWhorter on Waxhaw Cr., Mecklenburg Co., NC married Elizabeth Walkup, who is suppose to be a sister to James Walkup in the Waxhaw Settlement. This McWhorter family may be from the Octorara Cr. Settlement of Chester Co., PA. NOTE: As yet, there is no known source for these traditions. Other McWhorter records from Ancestry.com provides the following: John McWhorter, son of George McWhorter and Elizabeth Walkup, was born 1760, Shenandoah Valley, VA; died 1854, Hancock Co., GA; married to Sarah Shy. Rosannah McWhorter, daughter of George McWhorter and Elizabeth Walkup, was born 22 Apr 1774, NC; died 3 May 1846; married James Denton Smith. This fits the traditional migration route down the Great Wagon Road of many settlers into Mecklenburg Co., NC: PA - VA - NC. Additional Info: In 1740, the Chester Co., PA townships along Octorara Creek were West Nottingham, East Nottingham, West Fallowfield, Sadsbury, Caln and West Nantmeal. Those townships west of the Octorara Cr. fell into Lancaster Co., PA. Lee Ramsey
