Greetings from your listowner, Did not mean to upset anyone with my reminder of last evening. However, there are four points that should be clarified and then lets get back to the intended purpose of the list...Mecklenburg genealogy discussion. First, I have a long standing (at least four years) agreement with RootsWeb that they will supply free server space for our NCGenWeb Mecklenburg page and this list without any commercial messages (spam), "pop-up" advertisements, etc. In turn, I have agreed that I will not allow anyone to use the page or the list in a similar manner for any purpose and assure that the list complies with RootsWeb AUP. Second, just to remind y'all. There are upwards of fifty genealogical and historical groups in the greater Mecklenburg area that provide related, and very worthwhile, services and publications. Many these groups charge for their work, some for profit and some not for profit. If I were to allow everyone to promote or advertise on this list, y'all would be inundated with announcements, membership drives, genealogy book promotions, and fund raising solicitations emails (otherwise known as "SPAM"). Third, among my personal activities in the Mecklenburg genealogy community includes a membership on the Mecklenburg Heritage Book project. However, I don't think that y'all expect me to compromise list rules to accommodate any of my personal interests. Finally, a couple of years ago by popular request I added an "announcement" section to the main page at www.rootsweb.com/~ncmeckle . This feature is provided to announce projects, links, family reunions, events, etc. in lieu of list spam. (The Heritage book project link at www.rootsweb.com/~ncomchs is there) Thanks for your time and cooperation. Regards, Paul Buckley, NCMECKLE Listowner
