W. M. Hunter, as well as find how he fits into other Hunter families of the Mecklenburg County, NC area. I found it in a family scrapbook, with no date or name of newspaper. Other Hunters that I know are part of the family are Mary Elizabeth Hunter (b. 1870) m. Robert Carl Benfield in 1886, and her brothers, Millard (possibly a doctor) and Baxter Hunter. (I have photos of all these). I believe that Rev. Hunter may have been their uncle, or great uncle, based on the info in the obituary. Any info on the family would be appreciated. Thanks, Karen Dutton kdutton@carolina.rr.com Note: First A.R.P. Church, 721 N. Tryon St., Charlotte, N. C. from the minutes of the Charlotte Historic Planning meeting on April 13 1988 discusses this building, probably no longer functioning as a church. Anyone know what became of the records? Sardis ARP Church is now Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. Dr. R. G. Miller was pastor at Sardis 1887 to 1925. Have email from Ebenezer ARP that Dr. White was pastor from Jan 1. 1876 to Dec. 25, 1927, but continued to preach until new pastor installed in July, 1928. This would place the obit at between 1887 and 1925, though I lean toward the later end of those dates. Rev. Hunter was one of the founders of the YMCA in Charlotte in Nov. 1874, and President of the YMCA from Dec 1875 to June 1876. Obit for Rev. W. M. Hunter, DD Funeral services of Rev. Dr. W. M. Hunter, pioneer minister of the Associate Reformed Prebyterian Church of this city and for nearly half a century a preacher of the gospel will be held this afternoon at 5 oclock at the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of this city. The services will be in charge of Rev. Dr. G. R. White of Ebenezer ARP Church, assisted by Rev. Dr. R. G. Miller of Sardis ARP Church and Rev. Dr. J C. Galloway, pastor of the Gastonia ARP church. The pallbearers will be nephews of the deceased, including R. H. Adams of Gastonia, Olin and Reid Hunter of Huntersville, Frank W. Orr, Ira P. Ranson and Lucius Ranson of this city.
