In Mecklenburg Co., NC, the vast majority are found under Wylie. A good example of this name varient is a Mecklenburg County deed record dated 10 Dec 1917 for The legatees of John RYLIE. Since the deed record mentions "legatees" there should be a will also. The legatees in the deed are listed as Armstrong Rylie, Wm. A. Rylie, Wm. Wylie, Jas. McKibben, John Rylie & Sally Rylie, all of whom deeded 52 A on Reedy Cr., and this land was adj. to Robert Wylie. (D.Bk. 21, p. 97). There was also a John WYLIE, deceased in 1779, who owned three tracts of land on Reedy Cr., which was deeded to him in 1772, with one of these tracts adj. to James Wylie. A will for James WYLIE was prb. Jan 1772, Mecklenburg Co., NC leaving son John Wylie 500 acres in Botetourt Co., Va.; and sons Thomas, James & Robert Wylie 918 acres in Botetourt Co., Va.; to his youngest son Harris McKinley Wylie the plantation father now lives on; the wife is named as Martha, and a dau. Margaret. (W.Bk. F, pp. 208-211) From the will of John WYLIE dated 27 Dec 1806, and probated Nov 1812 term of court, he names his wife Elizabeth; a son-in-law Samuel Parks, a son Joseph, sons-in-laws Robert Wylie and Alexander McKibben, and a son Robert; another son is named John Gibson [Wylie?], a son William, and a daughter Jane. (W.Bk. F, p. 53) From the will of John WYLIE dated 26 Sept 1784, prb. c1784, he names his wife Jannet Wylie, a son James Wylie and a dau. Jane Wylie. (W.Bk. F, p. 219) I do not find a will for "John RILEY." There are additional Riley/Wylie land and will records under other given names for Mecklenburg Co., NC. Lee Ramsey
