Sandra McSpadden" <mcpickle@alltel.net>wrote: I am searching for info on the parents or family of Evins WATTS, b/1839 in Lancaster Co., SC. He married Lucy MURSH/MARSH, a Catawba Indian, in York Co., SC and they were in the 1880 census of Mecklenburg Co., SC. Evins had a brother James who was a few years older than he was. Hi Sandra, the Mecklenburg County Web Site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncmeckle has a link to Neighboring Counties-US Genweb Links. Then at the top of the next page click on York SC at the top of the page. This is also an excellent web site. After you enter Mursh surname you will get several hits and may take a little while to find the right info. One example states that Marsh/Mursh/Mush is of Pumunkey Indian origin. A Rebecca Marsha George, wife of Anthony George, d. 20 Jan 1882 (Catawba Indian Cemetery). A Robert Mursh, a full-flooded Pumundey Indian had a Catawba wife, and he was an assistant Baptist minister to John Rooker of the Flint Hill Church and missionary to the Catawbas. I did not run the Watts surname.
