Do you have any information on this John, brother of your Jennings Thompson? My John Thompson married Nancy CAWTHORNE, and was having children in the 1809-1829 time frame. There is at least one more contemporary John Thompson, however. Mecklenburg Co. marriages (compilation by Brent Holcombe) lists a John Thompson m. Nancy MACK 19 Nov 1813; John Williamson, bondsman; Isaac Alexander wit.. A John Thompson died in 1817 in Mecklenburg County; inventory of his estate was signed by James BLACK and Nancy Thompson, August 1817. In August 1819, a Mary HUDSON challenged this John Thompson's will in court, saying that it was the work of his wife Nancy Thompson, who by this time had married Joseph PURVIANCE. "Whereas the said paper writing was not the last will and testament of the said John Thompson ... but was an instrument of writing which was obtained from him by the deceitful artifices and undue influence forcibly and fraudulently exercised over him by his wife Nancy now Nancy Perviance the wife of Joseph Perviance. The deceased when the said paper writing was extorted from him was very aged and infirm, childish in his dotage, his reason and understanding almost lost. To said Nancy young and artful, conscious of his infirmaties and of his incapacity to make a will, procured the said writing to be drawn..." My mother copied all this material from the NC state archives some years ago, thinking it was our John and Nancy Thompson. At this point I'm convinced it's a different couple, but I am still curious. Is this Nancy MACK Thompson, or yet another Nancy? Who is Mary HUDSON? Elizabeth Harris state coordinator, NCGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/
