    1. [NCMECKLE] Mecklenburg County Convict Camp
    2. Glen Jordan
    3. OK, all you Mecklenburg County history buffs out there. Here's a little trivia quiz for you. In February, 1920, at the time of his death, my grandfather, C.C. KING, was superintendent of a convict camp in Mecklenburg County. Since he lived in the Long Creek community, I assume that the prison camp was somewhere near there. Derita happened to be not too far away. Maybe around there? Also, maybe Huntersville (which according to Joe Jacobs was once known as Deweese). As I recall from the 32 years that I lived in the Charlotte/Statesville areas, there was, and may still be, a prison camp in or around Huntersville. Does anyone know the name of that camp? Was it something as simple as 'Huntersville Prison Camp'? Any other suggestion re prison camps in or around the Long Creek area?
