    3. The McKnight in the Spratt cemetery was James McKnight the maternal grandfather of James McKnight Morrow, father of Maj. Benjamin F. Morrow mentioned in the original query. Here is a bit more about what happend to that old cemetery: Spratt Cemetery in Charlotte, NC. The Spratt Cemetry was on Spratt land some 400 yards back of the Spratt home at what is now the corner of Fourth and Caswell Rds. Tradition is that the cemetery was destroyed when Vail Ave. was opened for traffic. The stone were thrown into a gully and covered with 15 feet of dirt. When the nurses home for Merch Hospital was being built and excavating done for the basement four of these stones were found. The hospital gave the stones to the City Council. Mr. Victor Shaw was mayor and with his consent of the council, the four stones were place in a concrete base in the cemetery behind the First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. They can be found to the left on the first walk as you enter the iron gate. (compiled by Mrs. Robert McDowell) The stones found and placed in the church cemetery were: Here lies the body of Esther Johnston who deceased Oct. 22nd. 1775, aged 31 years.
