Hi Constance, I see Robert Locke in the 1810 US Census with 1 male child under 10, himself between 24-44, 1 female child under 10, 1 female child 10-15, and female adult (wife) between 24-44. Assuming the oldest child was 15, the marriage would have taken place no later than 1795, and Robert and wife's year of birth no later than 1774-75. Also close by as head of households in 1810 are Elizabeth Locke and Richard Locke. There is a NC will dated in 1799 for Mathew Locke and family members: Eliza, James, Robert, Richard, Matthew, Moses and Francis. (The on-line data base does not provide the source or the county of record). Early marriges for Rowan Co. NC show: 1. John Locke & Margaret Locke 28 July 1779 2. Matthew Locke & Nancy Brandon 20 Jan 1784 3. James Locke & Catharine James 22 Mar 1803 4. John Locke & Ann Hanna 21 Nov 1811 Ancestry.com gene pool individual record which shows Robert Locke m. Obedience Cathey in 1797. No documentation or location!! (LDS Family Research Center may be able to help with this record). You show Robert Locke having an 1818 will, naming children but not his wife, but you did not provide the county. The only Rowan Co., records I have are from the old Anson Co., NC records before Rowan Co. was created partly out of Anson in 1753. In viewing the index from Holcomb's Anson Co.,NC Deed and Will Abstracts to 1795, I see many Cathey's listed but no Locke's. Among the Cathey's no Ann or Obedience names listed. The Cathey wills in Mecklenburg Co., NC from 1791 - 1868 show no Ann or Obedience names, nor the earlier wills from 1763-1790. A Jane (McCain) Locke is found in her father, John McCain's, will in 1835. Cindy Locke's (lockeci@aol.com) response to a quiry states I am researching the Locke family. I have a Matthew Locke b 1721 d 1801 m. 1747 to Mary Elizabeth Brandon. Their children were: James b 1747, John b 1750, George b 1752, Francis b 1754, William b 1756, Elizabeth b 1758, Margaret b 1760, Richard b 1763, Mary b 1765, Anne b 1767, Jane b 1769, Matthew b 1773, Robert b 1775.
