Mary Henry b. 1730 married John Cathey b.1725, son of George and Jean Cathey of Rowan and Mecklenburg Counties. Frances "Fanny" Henry b. abt 1724 married George B. Cathey Jr. b.abt 1724, brother to John. My information is that Mary and Fanny Henry were sisters. Does anyone know who their parents were? Was their father George Henry? Josiah Henry?

Ramsey ("Carolina Cradle") provides the following for the early Catheys of Rowan Co., NC: In short, James Cathey of Lancaster Co., PA had sons George, William and Andrew, and all went to Orange Co., VA by 1732 in the Beverly Patent (1745 Augusta Co., VA); there was also a son, John Cathey, still living in Ireland, and he came to VA after the death of brother, William Cathey, who left his estate to this older brother John in Ireland. This John Cathey settled in the Davidson Cr. Settlement at the mouth of the Catawba River in what became Mecklenburg Co., NC. Robert Ramsey has no references for Henry families in Rowan Co., NC prior to 1764. A George Cathey, Sr.'s will was probated in Meck. Co., NC July 1801, naming children but not his wife who must have predeceased him: dau. Elizabeth, wf. of John Carruth; dau. Jane Cathey; son George; dau. Mary Allen; son Alexander Cathey; son-in-law George Graham; son Henry Cathey; and names several grandchilden. A Mary Cathey left her will Meckl. Co., NC 1802, probated Jan 1803, naming children: dau. Jean; son Archibald Wadle; dau. Elizabeth; dau. Mary; dau. Ellinor, who had son, Arch. Barkley; grandson John Cathey; granddau. Mary Henry Cathey; granddau. Esther, dau of Archibald. A Faney Cathey (apparetnly died unmarried) left her will Meckl Co., NC 1838, probated Oct 1838 naming neice Cynthia; nephew Archibald Cathey; niece Mary Cathey, dau of Alex.; a brother, George Cathey and a sisters Mary Armstrong and Esther Hannah; and a brother John Cathy. There are many references to Cathey and Henry family members in Ferguson's "Mecklenburg County, North Carolina Will Abstracts..." and additional Cathey wills listed in Brent Holcomb's "Meckl. Co. NC Abstracts of Early Wills."
