I am in desperate need of info on Henry Clay Yarber, Yarbrough, or as he was found on some of the Jefferson Co. Tenn.Census, (ClintonYarber). He was B: abt 1839 or 1840 in NC.The Co., I do not know. He M: Sarah Fox in Jefferson Co., Tenn.Mar. 1859 and had 4 children Mary, Elizabeth, Amanda J. and James Henry Yarber. He lived in the area until about 1900 then was in Anderson Co.Tenn. in 1910. Sarah must have died about 1878? because Henry Clay M: Maria Evans by 1880 and had 3 son with her, William F., David & Matthew. They were in the early 20's on the 1910 cenus Any info on his place of birth or his parents would be appreciated. Thanks! Joan
I'm Sorry: but I don't see why there has been so much debate about this gateway messages! Can we just get back to the Geneology.? As teh man said, ROOTSWEB has the control anyway. This is the one post on the gateway issue that I agree with . Joan The headers get in the way of reading the messages. This problem is bothersome and I would prefer to have the headers placed below the message. If that is not possible, I would prefer to not receive gatewayed messages. Thank you, Constance NCMECKLE-L@rootsweb.com

You know, it just dawned on me after reading one of the messages that I must not be seeing what some people are seeing on the messages forwarded from the message boards. I see no routing information, nothing in the text portion of my mail client but the contents of the message in my preview pane. Just like any other email. [I use Eudora] If I specifically WANT to see the mail header info with the email routing information, I can do that, but it doesn't default to that on any mail, forwarded, gatewayed, or sent 'plain'. I've been scratching my head wondering why the extra couple lines at the beginning of the messages with the "This is a message board..." Classification, and URL were causing so many complaints. If you're seeing the full headers on mails, you might look into your mail client's settings to see if you can tweak something or another and just have it show you the body of the mail. Hope that helps someone. deb

I am not sure. Anyway, I saw your message to Rachel. I am a descendant of Lt. Francis Ross, b. cia 1745 d. 1824 and Esther Carruthers d. before 1799. I am still trying to find his parentage and am at a "dead end". Ms. Janie Elms in York, S.C. sent me a message years ago that says that the McKelvey Center in York, S.C. has information that Francis, who married Esthr Carruthers, was a relative of Maj. Francis Ross of S.C...He was killed by Indians and that Lt. Francis was a brother to George Ross and that they descended from Francis Ross, b. in Scotland in 1695. Please share informatin about what you have on Francis and Esther Carruthers Ross, or anything on this family. Looking forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Tom Ross

Message Board Gateway #5.....Who the heck was Mary? I enjoy NCMECKLE-D -- I'm looking for family in all areas of NC, but most of the Gatewayed information is routing addresses (at least 5 inches on my screen) then I am titillated with a personal message that I don't really care about reading...I want to know information like what was given in #6 by Mr. Buckley, thats the reason I am on the list. Personal mail should be personal...NCMECKLE should be for the List....Gateway should have its own site and "We the people" can subscribe if we care to. bhd

Greetings y'all, Have now heard from about 10% of our subscribers. The folks wanting the gateway are outnumbering those who don't by a 3-1 margin. The major concern amongst everyone is the heading information sent by RootsWeb on each relayed message. A quick explanation. RootsWeb provides me with hosting services FREE with the feature to gateway the forum messages that I can turn on or off. As a condition for the free hosting, they retain control of the headers and footers on "gatewayed" messages. I have registered a complaint and request with RootsWeb about the headers on "Gatewayed" messages. To help get action, I suggest that each of you having a complaint with the headers contact them also. The address to complain is helpdesk-post@rootsweb.com . Thanks to all of you who have provided me with input. And per the majority opinion, I will leave the gateway feature on. Regards, Paul Buckley, Mecklenburg County NCGenWeb Coordinator and NCMECKLE Listowner.

I'm not sure that it was obvious - but you and I are researching the same family group. The parents of Eliza Hanover Thomas was David Price Thomas and Talitha Isabella Ingram. Eliza married John B. Ross. Eliza's sister Melinda married John Ross' brother, William Ross. They settled in Young Co., TX just after 1875 - which is the birth of my ggrandfather, William Monroe Ross - who was born in Stoddard Co., MS in 1875 - on their journey from Perry and Humphrey Co., TN to Texas. I have alot of research on the Ross',who are in the Mecklenburg/Carbarrus Co. area during the Revolutionary War. Our ancestor Luiet. Francis Ross married Esther Carruthers. But have not gotten very far on the Thomas'. At this time my best guess for father of David P. Thomas is a David Thomas in Humphrey Co., TN in 1820 - he owned a mill there. This is totally different from ALL Family history that I've heard of so far, which says that he was born in VA....but, in checking the census, you will see that year after year, David Price Thomas lists TN as his birth place. There is also family legend that says that David Price Thomas fought with Daniel Boone - that can't be. David Price Thomas was born in 1820 - and was just too young. I think that some of the information attributed to our David Price Thomas was really his fathers deeds and friends. If I can help you, please let me know. - Ruth in Portland, OR
List, In Mecklenburg county, and most North Carolina Counties, original property records from its formation in 1762 are at the local Register of Deeds office. Microfilm copies have been provided to the state archives in Raleigh. It is usually far better to get a copy of the original as the microfilm in Charlotte and Raleigh is often unreadable. Either office will provide copies by mail if you supply them with the book and page number of the record desired (for a nominal fee). Deed abstracts for the early years are available from a number of sources. Research assistance is also available from a number of sources. Best advice is to return to the main page at www.rootsweb.com/~ncmeckle , go to the "Local Resources" section and find the link to the Register of Deeds "official" page. Also, you may want to check out the section on "Volunteer and Commercial Assistance" Regards, Paul Buckley
