    1. [NCMECKLE-L] Does anyone have Obituary for J.D. McCall...
    2. C.A. Jennings
    3. J.D. McCall died on Sept. 1, 2001 and the online Charlotte Observer did not have the obit for him on the days it should have been in the paper. I am trying to hunt down a relative who has a copy but "just in case" I'm hoping that someone on this group might have the newspapers from Sept. 2 & 3. Thanks in advance. Although tradtional, family naming patterns have subsided over the generations, (of course 2.5 kids as the modern day average per family doesn't leave too much room for naming patterns), there are some naming patterns that continue to be used. One such naming pattern is the use of a paternal or maternal grandmother's maiden name, seemingly more so for a son. The name James Wiley Russell certainly fits this pattern. In my case my middle name is Kemp, my paternal grandmother's maiden name. My son's middle name is Lee, his maternal grandmother's maiden name, and my first name. Family naming patterns can be helpful for developing a research stradegy. In Mecklenburg Co., NC, the vast majority are found under Wylie. A good example of this name varient is a Mecklenburg County deed record dated 10 Dec 1917 for The legatees of John RYLIE. Since the deed record mentions "legatees" there should be a will also. The legatees in the deed are listed as Armstrong Rylie, Wm. A. Rylie, Wm. Wylie, Jas. McKibben, John Rylie & Sally Rylie, all of whom deeded 52 A on Reedy Cr., and this land was adj. to Robert Wylie. (D.Bk. 21, p. 97). There was also a John WYLIE, deceased in 1779, who owned three tracts of land on Reedy Cr., which was deeded to him in 1772, with one of these tracts adj. to James Wylie. A will for James WYLIE was prb. Jan 1772, Mecklenburg Co., NC leaving son John Wylie 500 acres in Botetourt Co., Va.; and sons Thomas, James & Robert Wylie 918 acres in Botetourt Co., Va.; to his youngest son Harris McKinley Wylie the plantation father now lives on; the wife is named as Martha, and a dau. Margaret. (W.Bk. F, pp. 208-211) From the will of John WYLIE dated 27 Dec 1806, and probated Nov 1812 term of court, he names his wife Elizabeth; a son-in-law Samuel Parks, a son Joseph, sons-in-laws Robert Wylie and Alexander McKibben, and a son Robert; another son is named John Gibson [Wylie?], a son William, and a daughter Jane. (W.Bk. F, p. 53) From the will of John WYLIE dated 26 Sept 1784, prb. c1784, he names his wife Jannet Wylie, a son James Wylie and a dau. Jane Wylie. (W.Bk. F, p. 219) I do not find a will for "John RILEY." There are additional Riley/Wylie land and will records under other given names for Mecklenburg Co., NC. Lee Ramsey

Sarah Everything seems so trivial. I'm neither hearing from nor sending messages other than to know that friends and relatives are safe and I know that is their reason also. This was in msn letter this morning. The ritual of flying flags and lighting candles is a beautiful gesture, but I needed more and I think this will be a small step. It has nothing to do with making money or adding to one's financial security. The writer had received a chain letter email asking people to invest $200 in stocks or mutual funds which prompted this letter, her response. But my family has common names which makes it hard. Fred Little married Dorothy Delores Jones. Together they had five kids but none of them know much about Dorothy's family. All they know is her mom was named Annabell Farrah and she died in 1924 and was married to Alouicious (have no idea how it is really spelled) who died in the 1930's, I believe. It is so frustrating. Any help will be gratly appreciated.
