    3. For what it's worth, there's a Moses Purser listed as a member of the Mecklenburg County Troops, Second Regiment on page 56 of THE HISTORY OF MECKLENBURG COUNTY, 1740-1900 by J. B. Alexander. That's the only Purser isted in the Surname Index. He is listed on the Mecklenburg census from 1790 to 1820 and left a will probated 1826 in Mecklenburg County. John's wife is mentioned in the will, but not named. 3. I am seeking information about Peggy POTTS who married John Smith Waddle in 1806. The William Waddle and Jonathan POTTS families lived near one another in the Hopewell section, MECK. Co., NC and both are listed in the 1790 and 1800 census. Jonathan POTTS household had 7 females in 1790, and it stands to reason that one of them was Peggy, but I cannot confirm this. If she was not Jonathan's child, whose child was she? IREDELL Co. NC Potts families do not appear to show a Margaret either. I would appreciate any direction or information. Sheila Anthony

    3. Seeking information about David CARLOCK who was in Mecklenburg Co., NC, 1803, and Warren Co., KY, 1810. David believed to have been b. before 1766, and to have d. after Jan. 6, 1814. He m. Elizabeth, who is believed to have been born before 1766 and to have died after Oct. 10, 1809. David is believed to have been the father of the following individuals: 1. Catherine CARLOCK, b. after 1787, Cabarrus or Mecklenburg Co., NC; m. James HENDRICKS, Oct. 10, 1809, Warren Co., KY. 2. John D. CARLOCK, on tax list for Simpson Co., KY; m. Polly GIBSON, Jan. 6, 1814, Warren Co., KY. John is not the same person as the John CARLOCK who also appeared on the same Simpson Co., KY, tax list and was the father of Rachel CARLOCK who m. Jesse WHITAKER. Sue Tilleman -----ORIGINAL MESSAGE #1----- From: STilleman@satx.rr.com To: KWARREN-L@rootsweb.com, CARLOCK-L@rootsweb.com, CEARLOCK-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, February 23, 2002 3:22 PM Subject: CARLOCK, CURLOCK, KERLOCK, and CEARLOCK Families of Warren Co., KY Can anyone identify the Catherine CARLOCK who m. James HENDRICKS, Oct. 10, 1809, Warren Co., KY? Can anyone identify the John D. CARLOCK who m. Polly GIBSON, Jan. 6, 1814, Warren Co., KY? Can anyone identify the David or Daniel CURLOCK, b. 1839, Bowling Green, Warren Co., KY, who migrated to Jefferson Co., IL? My 6th-great-grandparents, George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK and Rachel LANDERS, were married Oct. 11, 1805, Warren Co., KY. George is believed to be the son of Henry CURLOCK/KERLOCK who was in Rutherford Co., NC, 1782 - 1790. Henry, in turn, is believed to be the son of Frederick CARLOCK of Mecklenburg Co., NC, and the grandson of David CARLOCK of Augusta Co., VA. George and his family migrated to Fayette Co., IL. I find no record of George's father Henry CURLOCK/KERLOCK after 1790. Did he or other members of his family also migrate with George to Warren Co., KY? George Washington CARLOCK, a cousin to my 6th-great-grandfather, was b. Apr. 25, 1812, and d. Feb. 17, 1862, in Warren Co., KY. George was s/o John CARLOCK, b. 1782, southwestern VA; d. 1848, Allen Co., KY. John, in turn, was s/o Lemuel CARLOCK of Augusta Co., VA, grandson of Hanchrist CARLOCK of Smythe Co., VA, and great-grandson of the above-mentioned David CARLOCK of Augusta Co., VA. Several of George's descendants migrated to Texas, and, like my 6th great-grandfather, some of his descendants, predominantly found in Oklahoma, used the spelling "CEARLOCK" for their surname. George also had CARLOCK descendants who remained in Warren Co., KY. William CARLOCK who m. Nancy SLOAN was. b. 1814, Warren Co., KY, and was a brother to George Washington CARLOCK (b. 1812). Like my 6th-great-grandfather, George W. CARLOCK (b. ca. 1779), William also migrated to Fayette Co., IL. Any information pertaining to CARLOCKs, CURLOCKs, KERLOCKs, or CEARLOCKs living in Warren Co., KY, would be greatly appreciated. James Hendricks, Oct 10, 1809 in Warren but I was thinking I had that information will have to check through someother files. The Hendricks are connected to my Whitaker line. Rachel Carlock mar. Jesse Whitaker and her father was John Carlock of Simpson County, mar to Elizabeth, I always thought he could have been connected to the N.C. Carlock's but everyone else has him as son of Lemuel Carlock based on the Carlock book. He was born earlier in 1772 and not 1882 as the book states. The book said he came with his Uncle and implied that he was unmarried but I am sure he was married when he moved KY.as someone sent me two sets of Bible records which fit in with the information I had on him. The Skeen Cem records have his birth as 1772, I suppose they could have been misread but the earlier date seems to fit better. I thought he could have been son of David Carlock, who was not mentioned in the book ! but John D. Carlock who appears on the 1820C was. I have corresponded with others who have found the marriage record and they say that John D. Carlock was given consent for the marriage to Polly Gibson Jan 6 1814 in Warren Co., KY and her father Jacob Gibson gave his consent so both were underage, making him younger than my John. I have the tax lists for Simpson Co., KY and both John Carlock and John D. Carlock were in Simpson. They are not the same person and he is not the son of John Carlock. I think some of the persons I corresponded with thought that Catherine Carlock that married James Hendricks was dau of David but I don't know that any had proof.
