Reply: Donna Johnson of Charlotte, NC has several family links on the Mecklenburg County, NC website. In connection with my Ramsey research she sent me the following partial McCree records: Children of Margaret Johnston and Winslow McCree: 1. Winslow McCree, b. c1840, NC; found in 1850 census of Dallas, Co., AL, age 10. 2. Thomas McCree, b. c1842, NC; found in 1850 census of Dallas Co., AL. 3. Margaret McCree, b. c1849, Alabama; found in 1850 census of Dallas Co., AL, age 1. (There are two more children I do not have) Donna shows the family of John Johnston and Elizabeth Alexander also removing to Dallas Co., AL. There was a Henry Marlin McWhorter whose will was probated in 1830 in Mecklenburg Co., and who had no children. He was a son of Aaron McWhorter, who settled on the southside of Finley Cr., and his will was probated 1799 naming his wife, Fanny, sons: Moses & Henry Marlin; daughters: Jennet, Fanny & Keziah. There is also found an Aaron McWhorter, the son of George McWhorter and his wife, Elizabeth. They also had sons: Moses, George, James & John and daughters: Elizabeth, Rose & Agness. The will of Aaron McWhorter was probated in 1806, in which in left his plantation (farm) to son Aaron. Geoge McWhorter's land was on Waxaw Creek, east of the Catawba River, in the extreme southern portion of eary Mecklenburg Co., NC. In the 1790 US Census of Mecklenburg Co., NC there is found an Aaron McWhorter with a female head of house, one male child and three female children. The Rev. (Dr) Alexander McWhorter, of Maryland, was a president of Queen's Museum (school) in Charlotte and helped organize the Steele Creek Presbyerian Church. I would not discount Virginia, Pennsylvania or Maryland as possible origins of migration for these families. 1. [NCMECKLE-L] McCree - Johnston family from Mecklenburg NC
    2. Vicki L. Hill
    3. I'm trying to figure out the McCree family from NC. I 'think' - haven't found the link yet, but nothing else makes sense - I'm related to a Winslow McCree b 1812 NC who moved to Dallas Co., AL. My great-grandfather was Alfred E. McCree, born in Dallas Co., AL in 1864 but is no longer in that county by the next census. The only McCree family in that county for both the 1860 and 1870 census is the family of Winslow McCree (two of his grown sons are also listed in the 1870 census there, but other children are unaccounted for...probably my line). Winslow was married to Margaret "Peggy" Ramsey Johnston of NC, daughter of William Johnston and Elizabeth Hipp. William and Elizabeth married in 1808 in Mecklenburg Co. I don't know if any other Johnstons made the trip west to AL with Winslow and Margaret...but I do my that my Alfred McCree's mother supposedly was a Louisa Johnston or Johnson. I know there were other McCree's in Mecklenburg Co. at the time, but I haven't been able to tie Winslow into their lines yet, either. Any advice/suggestions on the McCree family appreciated. 3. Why the listowner would follow up his out-of-line (out of ignorance) accusation with a gratuitous insult is beyond me. Paul has not corresponded with me directly, just posted these ignorant messages to the whole list. So I'll reply here - and unsubscribe. The list members have been great and I appreciate the kind help I've received. I had hoped to start discussing the Robinson line now but the message below has disgusted me. I'll be glad to keep hearing from correspondents privately and welcome opportunities to reciprocate assistance. 3. Making a single copy of a few pages of any publication, for research purposes, is not a violation of copyright laws. The NY Public Library, one of the world's major research institutions, makes this quite clear in spelling out their copying rules. I hadn't seen the society offering to copy pages, but that also confirms that it's no violation of copyright. It doesn't matter who makes the copies! Paul, read up on Fair Use before making further accusations. Pat

If you want copies of OMGS publications, back issues of quarterlies, or selected pages from quarterlies, please visit their webpage at www.rootsweb.com/~ncomgs . 3. Lee, Thank you so much for the information about John Purser's wife's name. In case you or anyone on the list needs to know, Richard Purser was living in Henry County, GA by 1830 (see census records) with his first wife who he evidently married in North Carolina because his daughter Elvy Purser Ford's grave marker in Marion County, AL says she was born 22 Feb 1822 in North Carolina. Elvy was my 2nd g'grandmother who married Elijah Walker Ford in Henry County, GA 15 Aug 1844. After the death of his first wife, Richard married a widow Elizabeth Bentley Lee in Henry County on 2 Feb 1837. By 1850, both Richard Purser and his family and Elijah Walker Ford and his family were living in Marion County, AL. Richard Purser died sometime between 1850 and 1860 and by the time the 1860 census was taken, his widow Elizabeth was living in Marshall County, AL. By 1880, Elizabeth and some of her children were living in Lee County, TX.
