Does anyone have any ties to the following McLain family. It could have been spelled McLean at one time. Mary Flanagan's husband Felix Duncan McLain - his father was Allen Boston McLain b.1817 in NC (don't know exactly where yet). He moved to Alabama and married and raised his family there. Allen's father was Hugh McLain b. abt 1780 in NC. Hugh married Elizabeth Nancy Morris. Hugh and Nancy married in 1810 in Mecklenburg, NC. Hugh died in Walker Co. Alabama. Thanks, Carolyn

Martha- There's a white frame Philadelphia Presbyterian Church on Morrow Rd, just west of GA Hwy 19/41 near Morrow, GA - south of Atlanta in Clayton Co. We live in OK, but visit my husband's aunt and uncle near there. I've driven past the church a number of times but never looked to see if there was a cemetery there. Hopefully someone else will be able to tell you more. Sue -----Original Message----- From: Martha B. I am looking for information on Christopher C. Kiser (1844 - 1915) who married Margaret Long (1854 - 1920). Both now rest at Ebenezer Associate Reform Church on Old Pineville Rd. in Charlotte. Church records at Ebenezer show that the purchaser of their plot (#15) was Wesley M. Long, Margaret's brother, who also rests near by with his family. The children of Christopher C. Kiser are: i. Ida Belle Kiser (1871 - 1923), married Edward Franklin McCoy ii. Alice Viola Kiser, married Eli A. Beatty iii. Anna Lee Kiser (10 August 1879 - 19 March 1959), married William Mack Williamson (19 Sept 1880 - c. 1949), divorced. iv John Wesley Kiser (1886 - 1945), married Cora Lee Blanchard (9 April 1889 - 6 March 1989) v. Maude Smith Kiser 27 July 1890 - 19 July 1966). Never married. Thanks in advance for any information.
I'm looking for information on this man's burial site who died during the War and is said to be buried in a Confederate cemetery in Charlotte. Is there a Confederate cemetery in Charlotte? Thanks. Meredith
In the Marriage Records for Orange County, a G. W. MORTON was listed. I am not a member of the Orange County mailing list and therefore I'd just like to ask how I would go about getting info on this G. W. MORTON? In my line, we G. W. MORTONs and have been trying to find out the parents of David, George, Thomas and Mary Ann MORTON who were born between 1800-1808 in NC and are in Anderson County, TN by 1817. No records have been located that shows this group, but each MORTON lists NC as their place of birth. Do not know what happened between 1808 and 1816 when David shows up as paying a tax in either Knox or Anderson county, TN. This little tidbit is very interesting. Thanks in advance, Nina MORTON T.
Thanks for the reply. I acquired this name about 14 years ago. I see the Hinson name all the time, but since it's not really mine I have not done any research except for what I had helped Jack with when we were married. He was b. Dothan, Ala and they (Hinson's) had been there for over 100 years. I know they came from the NC/SC coast though. Sorry I can't be of more help. Check out the coastal counties of North Carolina and South Carolina and inland some. There are tons of them. Good luck, Joy
Joy Hinson, I dont know anything about the Skippers, but I have a friend who is looking for Hinson in those areas. Would you be interested? Louise, Would you also know where a cemetery would be for 12 Mile Creek? I have Jones which lived there. Thank you Wanda Bouchey
Old Six Mile Cemetery-Located in Lancaster County, SC not far from the NC line. Before 1813 the NC-SC boundary where present Union County (then a part of Mecklenburg) and a bit of Mecklenburg County met with Lancaster County, SC, the boundary was a road and not a straight line. The road was sometimes called the Salisbury to Camden Road. Six Mile Creek Presbyterian Church was on the west side of the road that divided the two states. The church was moved about a mile and a half in 1835. By that time the cemetery was rather large (Worth Raye said it was two acres) but it was left behind--supposedly because a gold nugget was found when digging a grave. It was feared that people would come in and indiscriminately dig for gold, thus disturbing the graves. Over the years, erosion and vandalism destroyed most of the stones leaving only a few. Most lists that I see are the inscriptions of 12-14 stones. My list is a little longer because it was read a number of years ago by one of the Morrow family (I am descended from James McKnight Morrow and his wife Susannah Watson Morrow) and I happen to have a copy of an old reading. I hope the additional names are helpful to some of you. Louise Pettus OLD SIX MILE CEMETERY Bigger, Alexander S. 28 March 1785- __ Nov 1815, aged 30 years. Coffey, Elsy S. Is your William Craig anyway related, maybe nephew, to Sarah Craig the wife of Robert Brevard. All of those families intermarried at one time or another.
