Verna, I've checked my books "Genealogies" by Anna Morrison Wilson, "They Married Confederate Officers" by Kathy Herran, "Descendants of Robert and Sarah Morrison of Rocky River" by Alice Marie and Janet Sue Morrison, and the William A. Graham Papers" Southern Historical collection, UNC Chapel Hill, the Wilson Library. None of these show a Washington Morrison. And yet there is a family connection to the Washingtons. Mary Graham, who m. Rev. Robert Hall Morrison, D.D. had a brother, Gov William Alexander Graham of Hillsboro, Orange Co., N.C. m. Susannah Sarah Washington, the dau of John Washington & w. Elizabeth Heritage Cobb (dau of Jesse Cobb & w. Elizabeth Heritage), and Dr. Morrison and wife Mary Graham named a daughter Susan Washington Morrison who m. Judge Alfonso Calhoun Avery. You might try another two books by Alice Marie and Janet Sue Morrison of the two brothers of Robert Morrison & w. Sarah above. They are John Morrison m Mary Morrison (his cousin) and James Morrison m Jennet Morrison (his cousin). The three were the sons of William Morrison & Janet Hall of Scotland. You may find these in the library or if you're interested, I can give you the sisters addresses. I'm sorry I wasn't able to be of more help. Thank you very much for the Obit. My Washington Morrison was born 1801, died 1836. Hello: Having been raised in Mecklenburg County many years ago, and being that my family used the McEwen Funeral Home for both my Father and my Mother, I can suggest that one go to the following address for searching out the McEwen Family: http://www.U.S.GenWeb.com. You will find a U.S. Map. Click on North Carolina. Then click on Mecklenburg County. You can find both the White Pages and the Business Pages. You should be able to find a bunch of McEwen businesses and personal residences. Good Hunting. Bill Weddington ([email protected])

SKIPPER as being in Company I during the War between the States. I found him listed in North Carolina Troops: 1861 -- 1865. COMPANY I This company was raised in Union County and was enlisted in Union County in March, 1862. It was composed primarily of men from Union and Cleveland counties. It was mustered in at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, April 16, 1862, and was assigned to the 48th Regiment N.C. Troops as Company I. The company functioned thereafter as a part of the 48th Regiment, and its history for the remainder of the war is reported as a part of the regimental history. The information contained n the following roster was compiled primarily from a company muster-in and descriptive roll dated April 16, 1862, and from company muster rolls for September 1 - October 31, 1862; January 1 - June 30, 1863; March 1 - April 30, 1864; and September 1 - October 31, 1864. No company muster rolls were located for May 1 - August 31, 1862; November 1 - December 31, 1862; July 1, 1863 - February 29, 1864; May 1 - August 31, 1864; or for the period after October 31, 1864 Valuable information was obtained from primary records such as the North Carolina adjutant general's Roll of Honor, discharge certificates, medical records, prisoner of war records, newspaper casualty lists, and pension applications. Secondary sources such ass postwar rosters and histories, cemetery records, and records of the Daughter of the Confederacy also provided useful information. Therefore I submit my great grandfather, JOHN H. SKIPPER, to this list. Bill, The following from my files may possibly relate to your Reeds: >From J. W. Reed: Taken from Bible records. Joseph Reed, b. 1734, born or left Limerick, Ireland and landed in Charleston, SC between 1761-1769 and received land grant in Camden District, SC. James Reed, his brother left Ireland, born 1729, landed in Charleston, SC between 1761`-1769 and received land grant in Craven, Camden or Granville Dist, SC. All Scotch-Irish. Joseph Reed died in Mecklenburg Co, NC, 11 miles south of Charlotte in 1823 at age 80. He owned 1125 acres of land on a dividing ridge between McCalpin and Four Mile Creek in Providence Township. His brother, James Reed, lived close by but I believe on Four Mile Creek but it was in Lancaster Co, SC. Joseph Reed asks: Is this the same family (Reed) that was in the census of 1820-1830-1840 of Lancaster Co, SC that lived in triangle between Heath Springs-Kershaw and Liberty Hill. Or are these (Reeds) the next generation of Joseph and James Reed from Ireland? I know they all came from the Reed clan from Antrim County, Ireland and before that came from Southern Scotland. Letter from J. W. Reid, Mar. 10, 1986: "Could your Susannah Reid that married Stephen Bullock Pettus in 1825 have married David McGlammery first? Her age fits. She was born Feb. 3, 1795 in SC. Daughter of William Reid (1756-1820) son of James Reed born 1727 in Antrim Co. Ireland and Lancaster Co, Penn and Rowan Co, NC. -Robert Reid Sr, born before 1755, place unknown. Died after 1810 in York Dist, SC. Believed to be the father of James Reid Sr. of Bastrop Co, TX. Robert Reid bought 300 acres on Turkey Creek, York Co.1787 from Francis Ross. In 1802 he sold 300 acres of Turkey Creek to James, Robert G., and Thomas Reid. Louise Pettus

Bill, My John Craig, b. 1717 in N. Ireland, d. July 26, 1819 in Lancaster Co. m. Elizabeth Galloway. They had a John Craig, Jr. b. 1754 in Ireland, d. Nov 5, 1834 in Lancaster. He married Mary Strain, in the Waxhaws. He had a son Jonathan Craig, b. 1793 and went to Tipton Co., TN. Those are the only John Craigs I have found in my little amount of research. I know there were other Craigs in York Co, but I don't have anything on them. Maybe Susannah Swan was a daug. of Ann Craig's sister or something. Sorry I can't help you. Thanks for setting me straight. My ancestors were in Anson before Union was created, but I should have checked my maps. Regards, Jack
>Union came out of Anson. Part of it came from Mecklenburg. I don't know exactly where the dividing line was, but my own ancestors were in Mecklenburg prior to the formation of Union, not in Anson. Elizabeth Harris state coordinator, NCGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/
Linda Blackwelder (in particular) I was interested in your John Craig, who may be from across the border in York County. I am searching for a York County Craig who had children, among them: John B. Craig b ca 1775 and Ann Craig born 24 December 1773. The Craigs were named guardian to Susannah Swan (n) in York and the kids (with Susannah) went on to (soon to be) Livingston County KY in the late 1790s. Sister Ann Craig married a David Caldwell in York. While John B. Craig married Jane Read (Reed)--the Reed family also went to Livingston Co. KY at about the same time. Jane Reed was d. of Joseph Reed and sister to John Reed. Any ideas and info. would be appreciated Bill Gilbreath
